This question has been brought up over and over again on the many rat-only forums that I belong too. Whether or not your rat has been proved healthy with a vet's certificate, AIRLINES DO NOT WANT RATS ON THEIR PLANES.

Even if they say they do they will make the procedure difficult and unacceptable for pet rats.

The only airline that will consistantly fly rats to their destinations is Delta. This has been proven correct by the other rat-keepers on my forums. It's expensive and the rats are carried in cargo.

Edit, June 18 I decided to e-mail Delta Airlines to get the latest info on their policy of shipping animals and this was their response as of June 20, 2007:
"Monkeys, pot-bellied pigs, reptiles, frogs, mice, rats, sugar gliders, and spiders are not permitted as carry on. However, you may ship the rats as cargo.

Detailed information about pet travel is located on our website at the
following link"

I know it is illigal to ship live animals via the postal service, or UPS.

Other option is "The Ratty Railroad", a group of rat lovers who help to transport rats from one place to another.

No they will not and if they did then you would have to sit it back with the cargo and many pets have over heated and suffocated back their. I suggest driving or something like that because they won't allow it. You can fly one but only as a VERY last resort. Call the airline and check with them.

Phone the airline. There can be strict rules about animal travel. For example, there are NO rats in Alberta, Canada. You aren't even allowed to keep one as a pet....so you wouldn't be allowed to bring it there....

the best thing to do is express live ship it to where you are going, 12 hour, and time it for when you get off the plane, have it held at the office and go pick it up and give him sqwooshies cause he's gonna be kinda freaked. they wont let him on the plane, the animal nazi's at the airport kinda suck.

i think u can. if u think about it, people can bring there little dogs if they can fit in a little cage under the seat of the plain. so....... i guess u can. i am also thinking of doing that but i am worried if the plane will affect there hearing.

I don't see why not, as long as the cage is fool-proof, and seal tight so that he cannot get out. You might want to check with the airline service desk before attempting though...

It is sooooooo hard to get through an airport cuz of security things with a pet. they do have a special place to put the pets but idk it might be waaaaaaaaaaay to much for a rat but i am not completely sure!!!
Good luck!!!!

Check with your airline, but most restrict it to cats and dogs.
