Every blood cell has a marker, or a flag, if you will. There are two types of flags, A flags and B flags. Type O blood means your blood cells don't have flags, A blood means, of course, A flags, B means B flags. AB means that your blood cells have both A and B flags. These markers tell your body if the blood cells going through your veins is yours or not. If not, your body kills those cells and gets rid of them.

There's also something called an Rh factor, which is classified as either positive (+) or negative (-). Honestly, I don't know what exactly they mean, but it's similar to the flags, it just makes it more specific.

Your blood type has nothing to do with your health. What it does affect is if you were to be in an accident and need a blood transfusion. Depending on what type of blood you are affects which kind of blood you can be given.

There are four types A, B, AB, and O and each type can be rhesus positive or negative. Types A and O are the most common and rhesus positive is more common then negative. Type O is the universal donor and all other blood groups can receive O as a transfusion but O can only receive O as a transfusion. Type AB is a universal recipient and can receive transfusions from every other blood type. Blood is only matched positive to positive and negative to negative.

There is no healthy or unhealthy types, just more common and more unusual ones.

there's no "unhealthy" blood types. people have different blood types due to heredity, just as we have different hair colors. there's A+,A-,B+,B-,AB+,AB-,O+, & O-. O- is universal, meaning regardless what type you are you can accept O- from a transfusion...this is the rarest of types as well. O+ is universal but only to others with any "+" blood type. the only thing bad about a person's blood type is that when a woman is "-" of any kind it can compromise pregnancy. this "rH sensitivity" can be avoided by have the rhogam shot given at appropriate times during and after pregnancy. no big deal.

Generally, YOURS is the healthiest one for you.

The blood types are A, B, AB, and O. Type A indicates a certain antigen present in the blood. Type B indicates the presence of a second type of antigen. AB has both types. O has neither type. Essentially, if you receive blood of a certain type, you need to have antigens for that type, or you will get seriously messed up.

People with blood type O can donate blood to anyone, so they are the best donors. People with blood type AB can only donate blood to other people with type AB, so they are the worst donors.

However, people with blood type O can only receive blood from other people with type O, since they have no antigens. People with type AB can receive blood from any type, since they have both antigen types.

People with type A can receive A or O type blood, and can donate to people with type A or AB.

People with type B can receive B or O type blood, and can donate to people with type B or AB.
