He's becoming a mature Basset Hound, independent and calm. Make sure he gets exercise and get him fixed. My Bassett "marked" everything in the house, especially furniture.

It doesn't sound right to me... A 5 month old puppy is still a puppy. And all puppies are active and full of spunk and spark and shouldn't sleep as much as he did when he was younger.
Are his shots all up to date?
Did you change his food?
Did someone new come into your house? Like a friend staying over alot or hanging out way more than before?
Is there a new animal?
Did your schedule change and you don't do the same things that you two used to do together?
Something is not right with the little guy. For sure.
If you have someone hanging around more often then maybe they are playing with him and tuckering him out and you just don't notice it. Or they could be feeding him scaps or something that he probably shouldn't be eating or eating way too much of.
But you are right to be concerned.
Take some quality you and him time. Just the two of you for a couple of hours or so. Even if he falls asleep sit next to him or scoop him up and put him next to you. Maybe a little one on one lovin's will perk him up...
Good luck and have fun with you furry best friend!
Ain't puppies awesome?! ;0)

First of all, this is a puppy and puppy's chew. You must let him know that you (or your nephew) are not chew toys. Re-direct him to the items he can chew on and NEVER let him nibble on you. Secondly, Harley is a puppy (heard this before, haven't you?). Puppy's potty training can last a while. Some are easier to train than other. If you are a stay at home mom to Harley, then he should be learning faster, as you have the opportunity to take him out ever hour. Use key phrases every time "let's go outside" "gotta go potty?" "wanna go out?' etc. Don't change these phrases. When he does go outside, jump for joy, give him rewards, his favorite treat or a special belly rub or give a special toy only to played with right after properly using the outside as his potty area. take it away when you go back inside. Praise and positive reinforcement are key, along with consistency. If you are a working Mom, you must crate train. This is not a cruel thing (unless left in the crate for too long of periods, in which case, no one with this issue should have a dog), dogs are den animals by nature and they will come to love their own place, if they don't already. Many dogs, after being crate trained, find that the crate is their own get-away when they want to be left alone, when storms rolls in that they are afraid of or when they know its bedtime. They love it. Good luck, just give Harley time to grow and learn, just like any toddler. Just remember - no punishments - naughty deeds do not get rewarded and any attention towards naughty deeds is attention.

His behavior shouldn't change that much in only a week. Hound puppies in general are pretty active dogs. I might get him into the vet for a looksee.
Usually they aren't mature until about a year.

He is learning that he can have independence. It is common in hounds. Keep an eye on him, behavior changes can be a sign of disease. But I wouldn't worry too much, it sounds like he is gaining some independence.

Yeah, he's just getting older and more mature. Think of him as being a 2-year old toddler now. He's going to try to be more independent, but make sure you don't let him get away with murder, or he'll be spoiled!

Your dog is just... hitting dog puberty I guess you could say. It's totally normal. Just chill. Every dog goes through that.
