Though not an atheist, I did attend a christian college that was different from my faith. I still felt welcomed and there was a sort of peace that was accompanied by it. Either you believe in a higher being or not should not deter you from attending college. My advice to you is try it for a semester and if you still feel uncomfortable, then you can transfer to another college or university. At the university I attended, there are others that were either Muslim or Jewish and other beliefs. Don't let your non-belief keep you from a successful life.

Really depends. I went to a (technically) Methodist affiliated college whose only real remaining tie to the church was that the church's Annual Conference was held on the grounds, and I (along with about fifty other kids) got a $500 scholarship for being members of the church. The school itself was very liberal and close to being hostile to religion.

On the other hand, there are those that require that students sign statements saying that they won't drink, smoke, or fornicate under threat of expulsion.

It'll depend on the college itself. You will almost undoubtably find a religious overtone to the college, but that doesn't mean that it will penetrate everyday life. I went to a Catholic college and while one graduation requirement was taking 2 courses in theology, you didn't have to take them on Christianity. On the other hand, I know of some colleges who REQUIRE weekly chapel, no matter your religion.

Talk to current students to get a feeling for how things are.

It will totally depend on what kind of affliations the college has. If its somewhere that is catholic or main stream protestant you shouldnt have any problems. I know lots of nonbelievers that have attended some these schools, which can have very high academic standards. But, if you are going to some Assembly of God Bible College, you are pretty much screwed.

probably frustrating, since all the teachings and beliefs you are taught have a christian base.
you will also, probably feel out of place since most people attending the school are also christian.

but maybe, you will learn things you did not know and change your mind about some things... i think it will be an experience.

Don't think I will have to worry about it because I would never put myself in association with something that I do not agree with especially with religion. ( And I am very concerned with what the bible has to say.)

MANY Christians are judgemental. Do you drink, have sex, ask questions that begin with why? I would tour the campus while in session to see how campus life really is. Maybe a better question is: why do you want to go to this college? what do you hope to gain?

It will be absolutely hysterical. Just try to respect that their faith gives them soemthing that they need, even if you feel you don't need one. Also, you can hide your laugh behind a cough when they call themselves sheep and the lord their shephard, why oh why would anyone want to be compared to sheep. Sheep are so stupid that if they are not led to water and food, they will dry rather than trying to find it themselves, they won't run from danger unless someone is pushing them too....maybe it does fit, never mind.
