I don't think you should be embarrassed about people seeing you run. You are doing the right thing, but I am also on the shy side so I can understand how you want to remain anonymous. Running early in the morning is a good idea since your peers won't be out that early, and it's also a plus for giving your metabolism a good boost to burn calories for the rest of the day. Another idea is to wear a baseball cap and sunglasses and you can feel more comfortable that if you are seen they will have a hard time recognizing you.
Depending on how active you were prior to you running will determine how quickly you see the results. If you were not active at all you just may see a difference in a matter of weeks!!
Some other easy weight loss tips is to cut out soda from your diet. By eliminating this one thing you can shed some pounds easily. I had one friend lose 10 pounds in a month! Also, don't eat after a certain designated time. For me, I try to have my last meal or snack before 7:30. With these simple changes and running you are sure to see some results within a month if not sooner.

I am certainly not school age, but I live in a small town and am very self concious about people seeing me run, so I can sympathise.
I go to the gym mostly and use the treadmills, because every one else is doing the same thing. If you cant go to a gym, can you walk to another neighbourhood or an oval and run there? Try stair running if you have any buildings near you (great for your butt!)
Running in the morning is a great idea, because you will burn more fat by running on an empty stomach too.
Good on you for wanting to try! Running is the best thing you can do for your body. Dont bother walking. It is a waste of time and you have to do such a lot of work to get the same tone as you would from a short run.
If you get into a good routine and go most mornings, you should really notice a big difference in 6 weeks. But dont forget to watch your diet, as this will give you more dramatic results.
Good luck! Those kids at school will be soooo jealous before you know it!

Running or walking burns roughly about 100 calories per mile so run if you want to, or walk, it just takes longer to cover the distance if you walk. If you're new to running, start by running for time rather than distance. Try to run 12 minutes without stopping the first time. You don't have to run fast, just run. If you can do that easily, move it up to 15 minutes, then 18, then 20, and on like that. Once you get to 20 minutes, you can start running for distance. You'll probably be running around 2 miles if you can run non-stop for 20 minutes, so measure out some loops around your neighborhood, or go to the track to see how far you get. Then make targets for yourself to beat like running 2.5 miles in the same time it took you to run 2 before.
I like running early in the morning, but I'm old. Run any time you feel like it, and don't pay any attention to what other people think. Most people are buttholes anyway, and do you really care what buttholes think?
You might want to try cutting down on stuff like sodas and fast food (if you eat or drinks those frequently). That will help you get where you're going faster.

I love to run and i also live near a lot of people that go to my school. Every one thinks that i don't like to run because im really preppy. Who cares what they think. While they are home and eating potato chips while watching re-runs of shows, you will be getting healthier and more fit. Im not fat at all. I run 2-4 miles everyday and i have seen improvements

if you want to run then go and run, you shouldn't care what those people are thinking of you. and anyways you are supposed to run early in the morning or late at night so you don't get heat exertion.
it depends how long you would have to run to make a difference, how far your running and how fast you could run that distance all play a part in how long it would take for it to make a difference. or you could just join cross country, you would have others to help motivate you to run

first i wouldnt worry about those kids..you can change your weight but they will always be nasty...i would get up early and run when it is cool and quiet...running any length of time is going to help but i would aim for at least 30 mins to start then work yourself up to longer times..even if you have to walk some of it it will make a big difference.....it is great that you are making the decision to help yourself...maybe look for a friend to run with you

You burn the same calories running X distance as you do walking. If you're really self-conscious, go for walks. Walk a half hour or 45 minutes a day. Within a month, you'll see and feel a difference, if you do it every day.
Good luck.
