I'm getting several piercings in a few days and I was wondering if using over the counter products (such as chloraseptic or Anbesol) on the area that will be pierced would be hygienic? I'm planning on using it for a Vertical Hood Piercing (which the skin is relatively thin) just to take the edge off the initial pain (since I plan on getting three piercings done that day for a quarter of the price). Anybody try this before? Did it work?

BTW if anybody is wondering what kind of piercing this is for...it's for hood piercings (the skin above AND around the clitoris). The skin is very very thin and sensitive.

it doesn't hurt that bad and and after I got it done it didn't feel like anything. I never experienced any pain of swelling. I would be afraid of infection if you put any OTC topical solution before getting a piercing.

Probably not. Any sort of product, especially something gel-like or thick, as most of those ointments are, can irritate your piercing and disallow it to breathe.

Plus, people who've tried it mostly say it didn't help all that much. It numbs the surface pretty well, but once the needle breaks the skin, the numbing stuff doesn't do much.

It won't numb anything below the surface of your skin unless you break your skin first. But then... what's the point?

ambesol ? or another type of dental pain relief gel ? it works in the mouth it should also work on the skin as well just make the area damp first with a warm wet cloth and then put some on it
