I have never understood that either, in fact, if he was unmarried that would have been considered wrong according to Jewish tenants of the time. Mary was NOT a prostitute and there are several references to Jesus and Mary kissing on the mouth and being in private with each other. Not Kosher so they had to have been related or married. I have no problems with his message even if he had been married. I think its because early Christians believed all sex was a sin so thus the sinless messiah would have been sinning.

For some, it means that Jesus was more human than he was divine, and some Christians cannot deal with that. Also, the book and movie make some pretty heavy claims about the Catholic church that make them look pretty bad. It's not like they have the best image in the world right now. For many people, it's simply a fiction book. However, it's not the first person that has suggested that Jesus was married. This is an old idea. It's been around for a while. It's not going to destroy the church or Christianity. People are overreacting.

"The Da Vinci Code" didn't piss me off, other than the fact that the movie was a VERY poor adaptation of what was an enjoyable read.
The problem that church officials have with the book is that it's "scholarship" is very shaky both on the history side and theological side... and people are taking it for fact without doing their own research. It is also a bit harsh on the Catholic Church and let's face it, no one like to feel like they've been insulted.

I basically think that the whole controversy was about Brown mixing truth and fiction. Brown included historic events, real places, and added some twists and crazy circumstances which could be thought plausible by some. Christians and the Catholic Church well understood that many people would get confused about the real search for Holy Grail and its meaning. It was sort of a hit at the Catholic Church and its teachings, and I don't blame people for reacting the way they did.

Christians are pissed off about it because they're morons when it comes to new ideas. Christians don't have open minds, they're stuck in the cage of Christianity. The whole thought of the Da Vinci Code thought is outside of said cage.

I am a catholic and I read the Da Vinci Code. And it didn't upset me. I thought it was a great piece of fiction.
What bothers me is when people get fiction and facts confused.
Dan Brown is a great author and I love all his works.
PS-- if you love dan brown , you should read steve berry!!

Did you see that news blurb just now about how some Italian clergymen are filing suit, which could make Ron Howard and Dan Brown criminals in Italy for religious obscenity?
My friends, THAT is discrimination and persecution.
This means no one can make movies that might offend anyone in the world. Shouldn't the people who licensed it in Italy be better targets for legal action?

"Why are so many Christians, Catholics mainly, so pissed off about "Da Vinci Code".
--not to mention people who cringe at such bad writing making it on the best seller list!

it became ok. it became extra advantageous than i presumed it could be because of the very destructive comments. in spite of the shown fact that, in case you hadn't examine the e book i don't think of you may've understood it. if i had come into the theaters looking forward to it to be a perfect action picture, i could've been disillusioned. yet because of the fact that i became looking forward to it to be undesirable, it wasn't particularly as undesirable as i presumed it could be. yet all and sundry has their own comments, this is impossible to make a action picture that all and sundry will like.
