i am sorry my friend but there is absolutely no way you can put a dvd into a cr-rom drive and poof, have a burned dvd. there are a few problems in the way. first of all, u have a cd-rom drive. now rom stands for read-only-memory. this means that forget dvd, u cant even burn a cd with it. for burning cds, u r gonna need a cd-r/w. that is a cd drive with a laser for reading the cd, as well as another laser head for burning a cd.
now cds and dvds have completely different structures. although they look identical, and u do identical stuff with it, if u ever flip a cd and a dvd and compare, u will see that the cd has a rainbow hue, while the dvd has a purplish hue. that is the basic external physical difference between a dvd and cd, and thus a dvd can store upto five times the amount of a cd, because the material used is different. therefore the laser required to burn that material off is also different.
sorry my friend but this is one case where software cant come to ur help. u gotta have to invest a few bucks and buy a dvd burner. there's dvd-roms too, but they are only gonna read a dvd, not burn it. too bad.

Just as all the others are telling you your CD ROM is for Cd's only you will have to buy and install a DVD ROM...you can burn mpg and avi stuff that you download on to Cd's as data that will play back on your computer, but you can only do this if your CD ROM is a writer as well....if you can burn music Cd's then it will do this

Your CD-Rom is for CD's, not DVD's.
If you want to play DVD's, then you can get an external DVD, or you can upgrade your CD to a DVD. The external will be cheaper.

attempt to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. This additionally occurred to me whilst updating my IDE controller drivers. brought about irreparable errata on my device. had to reformat. pass to start - Run - style "devmgmt.msc" - hit enter. develop "DVD/CD-ROM rigidity" - top-click DVD - click "Uninstall". Reboot the device. If after thoroughly booting it shows no sign of attempting to place in drivers, reopen gadget supervisor, top click on your computing gadget call and choose "test for hardware differences." you may acquire the latest drivers from the producer formerly.
