I think it will be hard to change your religion without a support system to lean on.

I think that you need to take the advise that most people have laid out for you on this page, STUDY...STUDY... and then STUDY some more. The Wiccan path is a bright, fulfilling, wonderful road to be on. I had to laugh at the Catholic believing that Wicca draws beliefs from Catholicism, it was the other way around, but I am not here to correct others, I am here to give you answers that may be helpful. If you are young, start small, look for simple books by Silver Ravenwolf, they are not complete, but they are a good starting point for young, new Wiccans. Teen Witch is the first book I gave my sister when she chose this path. The most important thing to remember about Wicca is the Wiccan reed, Do what ye will, harm none. It is important to understand that Wicca is a faith of love. Love for all people, an understanding that others may find your path undesirable, but that is their belief, and it is not your job to change it. Your job is to live your life in love, love for all others and yourself. Catholicism is a wonderful path for some people. Don't lose your respect for it just because it is not fulfilling you completely. Take what you have learned and combine it with what you know in your heart to be true. Faith isn't about right and wrong, it is about the feeling of love in your heart, the knowledge of your soul, and the belief that something beautiful made us and watches over us everyday. Good luck to you. If you want to e-mail me any ????'s, please feel free to do so. I am on myspace as Misa Lynne and my yahoo is Misaroley@yahoo.

How old are you?

The teenage years are a time of rebellion, no question about that, but why exactly do you want to change to Wicca?

What about the Catholic faith is troubling you? and have you sought the answers to your questions by talking with your Parents, Priest, or at least looked in the Catechism?

There is nothing wrong with being educated, just be careful to not change just to be different in this time of your life.

And remember, the Catholic Church will take you back!

Good Luck and God Bless!

You may find dabbling that way just brings you closer to the church.

So much of the magic and mysticism of Catholicism was tucked away in the closet in an attempt to bring the Protestants back. Let's face it. They're not coming.

I highly recommend the book Ancrene Wisse - a Guide for Anchoresses. It is out of print and can be difficult to find. It is well worth the hunt.

So much of modern wicca is pulled from Catholicism.

Did you know their greeting "Blessed Be" comes from a Catholic prayer? The Divine Praises. Ancrene Wisse states the anchoresses should say their "blessed be" often.

So too, you may find embracing the older ways of the Catholic Church fulfills the need you think will be filled by Wicca.

Do investigate. I feel God is calling a number of folks to branch out. To build bridges. Those of us who study will be those bridges. WE find the similarities. WE are better able to communicate.

I was a witch for years. Turns out I wasn't a witch at all. I am a Catholic with the gift of Discernment. Among other things.

God bless you. Feel free to drop me a note if you have questions or want book recommendations.

Edit: As Mr. Offensive below states - many protestants think we're witches and sorcerers already.

yawn...

Back during the time of Elizabeth I, priest's robes were called "garments of conjuring." (Edmund Campion by Evelyn Waugh - read it!)

Like I said. Nothing we do will bring them back.

another good source is witchvox.com.

make sure you really understand Wicca very well before you tell your family. The will most likely be horrified because they probably have heard all the garbage about it being satanic and such. You will have to defend yourself, so be sure you know WHY you want to be Wiccan.

As a caveat, this is the only religion I have seen people voice the desire to convert to without having really bothered to learn about it first. Learn, read, and keep silent about what you do. (Not about being a Wiccan, but if you do cast a spell that works, that is between you and your gods - not something to brag to friends about.)

Bright Blessings!

I to am Catholic and before making a serious change like that you should do some heavy Biblical reading. Jesus is pretty clear it can cost you entering into the kingdom of heaven.
Why wicca?
I am trying not to sound preachy here but think long and hard on this. Your soul is the most important thing here. Won't you miss that feeling of communion, confession etc. I left the church for awhile and have come back. I missed it.
Do you really feel this is the right choice? Take a look at the whole picture.

Take Care

If you are still living at home and are underage, and your parents are very Catholic, you may not be able to practice until you have a place of your own.

Have you looked on http://www.witchvox.com for local events and groups? There are many groups and online communities as well which support the Pagan paths. (I will warn you that many groups will not want to teach or work with you if you are underage.)

There is nothing that says you have to practice. If you are able to, continue studying and learning until you are able to get out on your own. And you never know, your parents may accept your conversion to Wicca. If you give them time to accept it, they may allow you to practice at home.

well, do you know anything about wicca? most people who live at home are teens and don't know enough about another religion to actually convert to it. study study study, take a wicca 101 course, or do your year and a day, and then you will be ready to choose to change religions. knowledge is power

If you would like, email me with any questions.

As for a place to learn on-line, check out http://www.magickaschool.com

They have a free one-year course that will teach you the basics quite well. It isn't at all the fluff-bunny stuff you can get from so many books at the bookstore.

Good luck, and Blessed Be.

Um, then why are you changing? What does it matter if you know anyone who does it? If its truly for you, that should not matter.
