You skin isn't being irritated. The skin is thin at the burned area. The redness comes from blood rushing to the surface when your body heats comes up from the hot water. The rest of your skin probably starts to look a little pink but I'm sure the red at the scarred area is much more noticeable.

Your skin will eventually thicken back up in that area and you'll likely notice a white area on your skin when you shower. Burns are like that. There is a topical cream, with silver-nitrate?, that helps reduce the appearance of scars.

Second degree burns leave a long- lasting area that is very sensitive to heat and cold. Your burned area may turn red in a warm or hot shower, or purple in a cold one for up to a year, but eventually it will go away.

.... it gets red because your skin is being irritated by the water.

I don't know much about 2nd degree burns. your skin will heal, but i dunno that it'll be the same as before. try some aloe based cream to soothe the burning or something. talk to a dermatologist or your GP.
