The literal translation is 'be in life'.

I think etre vivant would be closer to what you want your tattoo to say. I do speak French, but my translation may be a bit off (its been YEARS).

i speak french and have never heard that phrase before. In the US, "be alive" is a common expression and we all know what it means. A better way to say it would be:
"sois plein de vie"
or literally "sois vivant"

If you're getting it done in Paris, ask the tattoo artist. If they're French, they're going to know the accurate translation.

...And all of this confusion is why it's not a good idea to get a tattoo in a language you don't speak...

That said, I understand where the meaning would be coming from, and it seems your motivation here is good. Just be very careful of who you believe. My advice is to get a professional translation from another person face-to-face.

Actually you mean "être vivant" that means to be alive...just what you want :)
sois en vie... means you are alive...something like that... but not really what you want to say...

Might I suggest not getting a tattoo on your wrist? It's just not a very good place to get one. Maybe on one of your shoulder blades or something?
