This is my first cruise please help. Im going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise on Dec 31 to the Bahamas. What do I need to bring? What type of clothes? Dressy? Casual? What type of bathing suits? What type of shorts? How long do they have to be?

Anything will help. What all to bring? Do you have to check in all your bags? What size carry on should I take? Does it need to be a roll on too or just a bag?

Is it ok to bring a small carry on like for a airplane? The little roll ons?

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM. So take swim wear (whatever you have, there is no requirement for style or length), shorts, sandals, beach shoes, your snorkel equipment if you have it, sun glasses and sun screen, lotions, a cap or big hat for the sun, a book if you are a reader, your music player, sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym, your camera, and other personal toiletries.
After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc.
Most 7-day cruises have two formal nights when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up. (we usually take off the formal stuff after dinner and pictures anyway).
Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage. Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and and your clothes that you sleep in.
There is no limit on carry on luggage but bear in mind that whatever you carry on you will be carrying until your cabin is ready and many times the cabin is NOT ready as soon as you get on ship. Whatever carry on pieces you have will be sent through a scanner, just like in the airport so it cannot be too large for that. Otherwise they will take it to where other luggage goes.

I've been on Royal lots of times. It depends on how long your cruise is. Normally the 7 night cruise will have 2 formal nights. Dressy!! The 3-4 night cruises will have 1 formal night. All the other nights are casual. They don't like it if you wear shorts in the main dining room, but you can wear them at the buffet.
Your going to need shorts, tops, and 2 bathing suits!! Good walking shoes if you plan on doing some tours. I also bring water shoes, if you go in the ocean they are great, just in case there are rocks or other things you don't want to be stepping on.
My problem is I always over pack - but it's better to have too much then not enough. ENJOY! We are Platinum Members with Royal and love that cruise line!!

First off, congratulations!! Cruises are always fun. So just relax and enjoy it. You just need to bring what you would normally use in a weeks time, or however long your Cruise is, such as all the hygiene things you use, cloths you wear(including anything you might just wear to relax in), medications if you have any, glasses if you have them, etc. As for the cloths, in my experience, you will see all sorts of attire on a cruise. Some people just bring shorts and sandals, while others will walk around in dress cloths all day. It kinda depends on what you are comfortable in. If you are involved in the big dinners that the boat has every night, then you will want to make sure you bring some fancier cloths. But other than that, just bring what you are comfortable in. If your going to swim or just lay in the sun, bring your suit. If not, then don't worry about it. I have never used my suit on a cruise. There is plenty more to do on the boat, but again, it is up to you. So, there is really no rules on what to do a cruise. The cruise is there for you to enjoy, so do what you gotta do. They will not look down on you what-so-ever. The people working on a Cruise ship are the nicest people you will ever meet, trust me. So, just bring what you want, and have fun!

You will like RCCL. I suggest you pack nearly double of everything especially undies. There are no laudry facilities on the cruise ships. Research the weather in the Bahamas at the end of the year to see what the average temps are and pack accordingly. Typically there will be at least one formal dinner night. Ladies will need a nice gown or formal dress. Men will need a nice suit or tux. You can skip the sit down formal dinners and just go to a different place to eat that night, its your choice. Otherwise nice casual dress clothes are generally the order. You can wear nice shorts to dinner on the casual nights in the sit down dining room. You can wear longer or shorter shorts, what ever suits you. They are more interested in nice casual dress clothes as opposed to jeans and torn ragged clothes. I suggest if the weather looks like it will be warm to still pack at least one casual pair of long pants. Bring what ever bathing suit suits you, there are no limits with the possible exception of thongs which I didn't see at all on my trip. If you plan on going to beaches and walking the surf, bring sea shoes, they are cheap and a godsend to protect your feet. You should bring some cash to buy things on the islands, judge according to what you think you'll buy. Everything on the ship must go on your room card. You WILL need a passport to get on the ship the first time and when you leave the ship for the last time and declare your customs items. So apply NOW if you don't have one as the wait is long.
The carry on should be a small bag hat contains only allowed essentials such as your papers like tickets, itinerary, reservation confirmations and such, your passports and any medications you must have. You should also carry on any expensive jewelry, cameras, and other electronic equipment such as a laptop.
