Thanks to all of you for being so d@mn cool!!! I just starting watching NASCAR this season and I love it!!! This is the neatest thing I've ever seen. It's like a whole different level of sports. These guys in the cars are amazing athletes. I never knew how much strategy is involved until now. I'm loving everything about it.
Also, I have never seen such loyal and close knit fans. And you all have been patient with me and my questions, on Answers and in person. There is a guy at work that I am constantly asking questions to, and he has been very helpful teaching me about the sport. I have NEVER had any fan not be friendly to me, even though I'm a rookie watcher. I'm sure you have your jerks too, just like any sport, but the vast majority of you are really cool. It's like one big family.
To NASCAR and it's fans, I salute you : )

GODSMACK#1, my favorite driver is Jr. I like the Chevies. And Jr has been down a little while. I like to see a guy pull himself out of the dirt. I think it's gonna be interesting to see what he can do with all the money Hendrick Motorsports can throw at his car.

NASCAR could not continue to be Americas #1 sport if not for new "recruits" like you.
You have already ascertained that not all race fans are "uneducated rednecks" and that yes, we tend to be one large family with the same attributes as most families, i.e. disputes, differences of opinion, squabbles and the rude cousin who nobody knows how to shut up!
OH and Uncle ______ who drinks too much and roots for Darryl Waltrip!(No body wants to tell him that DW quit driving years ago).
Welcome to NASCAR!

Welcome to the world of NASCAR! If you think it is great to watch wait until you experience your first live race, there are no words to describe it...truly...if you are fortunate enough to get pit and garage passses hang on....there really is nothing like seeing the cars before the races, the crews getting ready, the teams grilling and all by their haulers and getting to actually see a lot of the drivers as they come and go and after the driver's meetings etc. most of the guys are really friendly and ready to give an autograph but sometimes they are in a hurry and don't have time, they don't mean any disrespect to the fans, they are a great bunch.
Jr. is great and will hopefully put his heart back into racing with Henrick backing him now, it will be interesting to see what he can do with the Hendrick resources. Although never have been a Jeff Gordon fan I support Jr. in his move and wish him the best!

Nascar has a rich history of bringing its sport to the masses. Although we all have our favorite and least favorite drivers, we all share a love for the sport of racing. I personally enjoy not only Nascar but Indy car as well and have recently started watching Formula 1. People are correct when they tell you..."Go to a Race"..... Once you do that... the sounds, the excitement, the suspense, the general aura of racing will hit you like nothing before and you will be hooked for life. In the meantime, welcome aboard....

when you go to a race you will also see how family oriented the sport is. just look around in the seats and garage area and see how many families you see at such an event. nascar prays, has flyovers, singing of the Star Spangle Banner, its awsome to be at a pre-race event and see all the fans waving flags and showing how American the sport really is. I love it and have been hooked since my first race at Texas.

awwwww how sweet! Wow thanks a bunch and I whole heartily agree! As you said there can be a few bad apples but they're nothing compared to all the great loyal fans!
NASCAR is truly the best for those like you who can appreciate the strategy of the sport. It's alot more than just driving cars and not alot of people get that!
Welcome to Yahoo Answers I hope you enjoy the camaraderie here! I look forward to seeing you on the boards. And remember it's not just a sport it's a lifestyle!

Yep, it sounds like you've got it bad. It's addicting, isn't it. I find myself being even a little obsessed with racing info and stats at times but there are worse vices a person could have. Race fans ARE awesome people for the most part and they usually can get along with anyone including fans of opposing drivers. You are right about the jerks, some in every crowd, but the percentage of them in racing are far less than fans of other sports. If you ever have any questions you know the place to find friends with answers, right here.

welcome to the great sport of nascar, friend! we have been trying to convert as many people as we can and it is too cool to see someone come along that is so enthusiastic about learning this sport! it has such a rich and controversial history, all worth reading about. if you really want to get into it on a closer level, visit one of your local tracks and pick a driver there, too. it is a ton of friday/saturday night fun, inexpensive, and you never know who might make it to the big leagues from your hometown! i salute you!

I must agree with you, NASCAR fans are great! I'm new this year too, wasn't sure how much I was going to like it, but thank goodness for Daytona, that race got me hooked! Somebody made a comment about collecting Diecasts, watch out for that, it certainly costs a lot of money. I've got myself a nice little collection going, but it certainly did cost me a pretty penny.
I also agree, the people on this board (with the exception of one) are all very helpful. David G is one great guy. Certainly has no problem answering any question I've had.

i just got into nascar last year, all because i went out to get me a new video game for my PS2, since i was board with the ones i already had. I kept thinking which type of game i didn't have yet. i liked video games with cars that can crash, and Nascar 2005 chase for the cup caught my eye.
i went home put the disc in. i played it and i became hooked. i watched a few races soon after, and have been watching it ever since.
my favorite track is the Martinsville track.

Welcome to the world of Nascar friend. Just watch a race or two. if you see a car with a paint scheme you like or hear of a driver that sounds cool, then pick him as your fave. You will also get hooked on collecting hats, t-shirts, die-cast cars and other driver memorabilia for your driver.
