where exactly is the liver located? some have said it is on the right side right under your last rib but in diagrams of the digestive system it is shown almost directly under the breast on the right side. so where is it? is it covered by all of your ribs or is it under them?

also i have a dull pain lately on the right side under my ribs. it isnt like an aweful pain or anything, just when i dance (im a dancer) and i have to bend that way or backwards it kind of hurts, liek its just bothersome. could this be my liver that hurts? it wont go away but it isnt severe so i figured its nothing.

its just under your lungs. mostly on the right side. the ribs still cover it.

Like you've seen it is partially tucked under the lower right ribcage, although one lobe can hang lower and to the side depending on your build. The liver is a big organ so that's why it seems to take up so much space on that diagram.

It's possible to get liver pain if it's inflamed for some reason. It could also be your gall bladder which is much smaller but in a similar spot.

One ultrasound would probably be enough to see if there is anything going on in that area.

the liver is a very large organ, it rests under and behind your right lung and extends down to the last rib. The liver is not highly enervated and doesn't usually cause the discomfort you describe. I suspect as you are a dancer that the discomfort you have is over extended tissues in your intercostal regions, the tissue between your ribs. Some Ibuprofen and rest for a few days will likely resolve your problem.

Doesn't sound like this is your liver causing pain, especially if the only symptom you have is pain when you bend over backwards, sounds more like a pulled muscle. Stretching prior to the activity should help, and it could be the release of lactic acid, common with exertion, taking vitamin E immediately after can help reduce the surge of lactic acid release after exercise.

I believe that is in the vicinity of the liver. However, it is more likely that it is a pulled muscle that is causing you the discomfort. If it persists, it could not hurt to see a doctor, but I think it is highly unlikely that it is anything serious.
