Lutheran's are Christians. They came out of movement when Martin Luther disagreed with the Catholic Church. Most protestant faiths believe most of the same things. There are a few minor differences. So Lutheran, Methodist, Catholic, Baptist, etc. are all Christians.

Christian in this context must mean those who claim to be of the Christian faith, as opposed to being Muslim, Wiccan, Hindu, Buddhist, etc.

There are a lot of different types of churches in Christianity. The Lutheran church is just one of those churches. The Lutheran churches have a lot of different synods, but are one of the oldest forms of the Protestant faith.

As you can see, the Lutheran faith would be too difficult to describe.

To give an analogy:
It's like asking what is the difference between a cat and a feline. There are many different types of felines: lions, tigers, domestic cats, panthers, mountain lions, etc. Then in the domestic cats, there are persians, siamese, calico, etc. It's the same way with the Lutheran church: too many variations to fully explain here.
