I know I grind my teeth at night and I'm sure that caused this problem. I don't have any pain or swelling at all, I am just worried about my now hollow tooth. It takes about a month to get an appointment with my dentist. What should I do?

Don't worry. You can go to the store and look next to the floss for temp fill or temporin (temporary filling) Use a Q - tip to dry the hole and then use the Q - tip to push a small amout back down into the hole (DO NOT LEAVE A BIG BUMP/GLOB) only enough to cover the bottom of the hole, not enough to fill the hole thing. Remember not to eat sticky or crunchy things for 1 hour and replace as needed. You may also want to try wearing a night guard to prevent tooth wear/breakage. They have over the counter ones at the store also.

The temporary filling the endodontist put in probably won't last very long. Teeth that have root canals usually need 2 procedures done, they need a build-up ( a big filling that goes under a crown) and the crown. Sometimes the build-up can be done and the crown done later. This may be an option for you. Since your insurance is maxed you'll have to pay for the build-up, but it would protect the investment you made in the root canal. The temporary can wash out and cause leaking. Hope this helps you.

Call your DDS today. The very least he can do is put another temporary filling back in it until he can see you to do the permanent restoration. The last thing you want is to get bacteria back down in that area, it could eventually make that root canal go bad and reinfect the area. Root canals are pretty expensive, it would be a shame to let all that work get reinfected if you can help it. You may be in luck if not all of the temporary came out, but you really should call your dentist today.

Follow the directions from Spongebobrogers but as soon as you place the filling in, be sure to grind your teeth back and forth and around (before it dries) so there is no filling overflowing and in the way of the natural bite.

this is a dental emergency, especially if you have nocturnal bruxism, you could destroy the tooth in one night. Call your dentist and explain the situation, they should get you in immediately.
