without seeming like we only want in your pants (ie, from car to car @ a traffic light, at the grocery store, the library, etc., etc., etc.). When the direct approach isn't an option or just to be friendly. Please----help 'em out, ladies. Thanks,

I can appreciate it when a young man approaches me with respect and confidence. A simple smile and "hello, how are you?" go a long way these days.
I don't appreciate it when strange men address me as if they know me - calling me nicknames or whathaveyou. Ick. I also don't like lame attention-grabbers like "Saaaaay mama!" or "Eh, ey, sister, canIhollatchyou?" What is that?!
The other day, a nice young man complimented my outfit. It wasn't anything flahsy - I stopped at the store on my way home from church. He didn't lick his lips at me or do anything gross. He just paid me a nice compliment and kept going. Things like that are good.

I like when a guy says something like, "hey nastycakes" when I am crossing the street (this really happened to me). Seriously though, a nice smile and a simple hello are usually great ice breakers. Trying to make idle conversation allows the female to feel like you may just be a friendly individual instead of a stalker. If you can sneak a quick compliment in there right off the bat, that helps.

Dear Askaman,
Let's say you were in a video store and you see a nice looking woman viewing a certain movie for selection. Walk up to her and simply say, "Hey, I saw that. Did you? What did you think of it?"
Good luck,
Sunshine

you have to look friendly and genuine. say Hi and mentioned what it was that attracted you to her...postive energy, smile, charisma. Then tell her you'd like to get to know her better. If she doesn't feel like giving out her number then maybe an email address.
