It was the Mormon Battalion that had marched from *Iowa to California during the mid-19th century--a marked venture for the infantryman because of the distance involved. Members of this battalion had been among the first to discover gold at Sutter's Mill.
Socmum: Thanks for the correction*. I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth from 1960-62. I knew Leavenworth quite well at the time. A pianist and I played in all the bars for beer as compensation.

I hope to make one when I become an officer. That would really help our country and young men and women and it would help others to make the decision to make one as well but sorry I don't know the answer to your question.
