Do skin cysts leave scars??

I've had a skin cyst for the past months and then it finally went away and the skin is flat again. But, it leaves a red mark and I'm wondering if it will ever go away.

I had a large cyst on my back (it was gross); i had to have it removed. The removal left a scar but I don't think that if the cyst had gone away by itself it would have left a scar.
