I'm 17 years old and travelling by air to Ohio on Sunday by myself. I've never done this before and am extremely nervous because I'm not sure about how to check in, change flights, get my baggage, etc. It sounds extremely pathetic, I know, but I am very scared that I'll mess up or miss my flight. Can anyone give me details as to how to do these things?

I'm going from Austin to Dallas (changing flights) and then from Dallas to Ohio.

it isnt pathetic. When you get to the airport you are flying out of you need to go to the part of the airport that has your flight. Like northwest or whatever. Sometimes they have curb side check in and sometimes they dont. If they do they can check in your luggage there. If not take it inside with you and they will check it in at the counter and give you your tickets. then you take your carry on and follow the signs in the airport to find where your flight is. There are tvs that have departure and arrivals on them. When you get to where you need to go, they take your ticket and you get on the plane. you can also go to your flights websight to find out more information. good luck and have fun!

It's not as scary as you would think trust me! :)

When you get to the airport, go up to the ticket counter and the agent there will be more than willing to help you. Just show ID and swipe your passport or driver's license in a machine there, and your flight record should come up. Type the number of bags you want to check, and they will take care of that for you. Print your boarding pass if you didn't do so at home.

(If you don't have ID, you can have your comfirmation number. Which should be on your ticket, or when you booked the flight you should have gotten it. Something odd like C578F2.)

Then just follow the signs, and you'll be all set!

Make sure to find a flight information board (a BUNCH of tv moniters listing the flights), and check your flight by looking for the city you're going to, and it's flight number for the gate, and it's status. If it's on-time and such.

You'll do fine. :D

First you use the internet to find what gates your flights are expected to use then use the internet to get layouts of airports so you can plan where you are going.
Get your ticket and boarding pass on line and print them up and make sure you have photo ID. Go to one of the checkin kiosks if your airline uses them in Austin and then take your checked luggage to the counter.
Arrive early, don't try to take any of the banned stuff in carryon luggage or in pockets (list at TSA). Take as little as possible on the plane and make sure anything battery powered actually works.
Go through the security line.
DFW is laid out in a series of D shaped terminals labeled with letters (A, B, C ...). If you are in the same terminal you can walk but the gates may be up to 3 blocks apart. The airline can supply a shuttle cart to help you get there. There is a railway up at the top of the terminals that goes from one to the others and you stay inside security. At DFW there are lots of food places inside security if you have time. You are allowed/expected to take food on the plane these days.

i'm traveling by myself to california this saturday and im only 15 it's pretty simple if you can check in for your flight online do it 'cause it will save you time if there are long lines, as for changing planes just make sure you have clothes in a backpack or somthing just in case your flight gets stuck in dallas and your luggage is put on another plane to ohio. just relax get at tha airport at most 3 hours before your flight you should be fine, i'm only 15 and ive traveled by myself plenty of times

First of all, make sure to check the TSA website for any updates on what's acceptable to take on the plane vs. checking it in as baggage.

Take with you on plane - Liquids must be 3 ounces or less and no more than can fit in a 1-quart ziplock bag.

I travel a lot and I try to get it so that everything comes with me on the plane. If this is possible, all you will need to go is find the bank of ATM like machines and check yourself in,
get your boarding pass, go through security and wait to be called to board the plane.
