i don't think it would make the bible illegitimate if he had. After all, it's not a sin to fall in love! I don't think it would have had a negative impact on his ministry.

sorry, i know this question has probably been asked before.

I personally do not think it would make a grand difference if Jesus was married but many people do. However it doesn't take away from what he taught. The fact that he may or may not have been married doesn't take away from his teachings.

It doesn't matter as long as you believe that Jesus was a man. However most Christians believe that Jesus was divine and to say that he was married would make him seem mortal in their eyes, thus undermining their entire belief system. The Christian belief is that you only find salvation through Jesus Christ and this all relies on his divinity. If it were proven that Jesus was not divine, the entire basis of the Christian faith would be undermined.

It wouldn't invalidate the teachings of the Bible and may make it easier for some to believe that he was even so much as a leader (I'm sure you've heard that there is no way a Jewish man would be respected or followed without having a wife during Jesus' time). The reason many people do not believe that Jesus was legit is because he was claimed to be unmarried. Many believe that this is why Jesus is depicted in the Bible as being a single man - because it would be hard to believe for many people that he was divine if he had a wife.

>>>If jesus actually had a wife, would it really matter? i don't think it would make the bible illegitimate if he had.<<<

Actually, in a way, it would.

Matthew 19 quotes Jesus as saying that there are some who forsake marriage for the sake of the Kingdom -- and He gently challenges (though doesn't require) others to live the same way.

Jesus was not a "do as I say, not as I do" sort of guy. He would not have issued such a gentle challenge, if He were not doing it Himself.

Jesus would not have encouraged "those who were able" to live celibacy for God's sake, if He weren't doing it Himself. Again, He was not that sort of guy.

It would not bother me a bit.
There was no sin found in Jesus at his death, his offered his perfect human life in exchange for us all.
Marriage is not a sin. Sex within marriage is NOT a sin. He could be both married and free of sin.
I think, though, that if he had children, it would add an unneccessary twist to things, as a perfect human male, he would have passed on his perfect to a child and therefore that child would be perfect.
I personally don't think he was, because any man who has a wife has an extremely difficult time NOT sinning especially during THAT time of the month. He would have HAD to get perturbed and sinned at SOME point. this is just a comical view.

For me, Jesus having sex or a wife don't impact his divinity/humanity or his message any. But if he had offspring, then I would be thrown into a theological conundrum... that brings up all sorts of theological and philosophical questions about the nature of divinity and could get pretty ugly.

it would blow all the bible theology off the map. nothing wrong with marriage but the bible jesus was supposed to have a higher purpose than that. he was supposed to be god made flesh whom died to save every human born into the world. heavy burden. no wife needed and it says that he was supposed to be married to the church ever living to make intersession as a high priest as we speak. no time for wife...

I think that it would just confirm that he was following ALL of God's commandments. Marriage is a commandment. He was baptized- why not married. I don't think that it would make the bible illegitmate at all.

Jesus' purpose on earth was to minster to the lost and spread the truth of God's love and die for our sins. He fulfilled his purpose.

It would destroy Christianity, since it is founded on the premise that the son of their God (which is one in the same) walked on earth and ascended into heaven. They take the teachings of Jesus as God's word. However, if Jesus was just a human, then the teachings are just the teachings of a human and it reduces their ability to point to their God having been on earth.

It would matter because Jesus would cease to be divine. It wouldn't invalidate the Bible though.

* His purpose on Earth was to serve the Lord and minister, as someone mentioned earlier. However, Jesus is the human form of God, therefore, He should be like God in all aspects and not submit to Earthly pleasures that would distract Him from his purpose. This is why many clergy members choose God over human romantic love. They devote their lives to God

I don't know if Jesus had a wife. I agree, it would not matter to me one bit. I love HiM and nothing will change that. ;o)
