I'm counting calories. We have wheat bread and white bread.
The wheat bread has 70 calories per slice (5 from fat)
The white bread has 70 calories per slice (10 from fat).
Does it make a difference? What difference?
Can you recommend a bread without as many calories?
Thank you all.

1 gram of carbohydrate ( from any source ) = 4 Calories
1 gram of protein ( again from anywhere ) = 4 Calories
1 gram of fat = 8 Calories

However with that in mind try to find foods with highest level of protein than carbohydrate than some fat. Breads are imprtant because of the energy source but also due to their B vitamins so cutting out bread is a very bad idea. I would personally choose the one with less fat , but more importantly choose the one that has high fibre content ( healthy digestion ), whole grains are better than processed white bread as they preserve the nutrients in the hull.

I agree with whole wheat over white or wheat. Actually, there isn't much difference between white and wheat, except that wheat is white bread with a wheat flavor. The bread I eat is 100% whole wheat and has natural sweetners-- cane sugar (over processed white) and raisin juice. It's the Meijer grocery store brand. It's not only cheaper than the fancier national brands, but unlike the national brands, it doesn't have corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup. (I REFUSE to eat that junk, especially while pregnant.)

Personally, I go with health over calories. However, when we lived in Columbus, OH, I used to go to the Schwebel bakery outlet and get some lite bread that had 60 or 70 calories and low fat calories. I got it no so much for the low calories, but because corn syrup, and/or high fructose corn syrup was under the "contains less than 5% of..." listing. Also, It was only $.70 or $.80 a loaf. Cheap and healthy. Unfortunately, I have not found anything like that here in Michigan and I hope it is still there when my husband and I return to Columbus in Augutst.

I hope this helps.
