A Good hostess gift is always something which is useful without be ostentatious, Food or liquor is seldom a good choice unless you know the persons tastes. A better choice is a small gift of linens or paper goods tastefully chosen, such as guest towels, serviettes, or tablecloths. Small serving pieces or glassware are also appropriate and can make the visit memorable.

Well since they do not drink, I would think of things that they like. I know one of my friends adores frogs and collects frog figurines so every time I go to their house for an event or extended stay I get her a frog and her husband something to do with Nascar. I don't really know anything about Nascar but I know that I can find some cool stuff or something that he will think is cool as a gift. I have also given gift baskets to friends with cheese and fruit, or cookbooks if they are into cooking. I guess my advice is how well do you know them and give gifts that play to their strengths.

Unless you know her style, I would refrain from buying 'material items.'
As has been suggested, take a basket of food items, only make it personal by putting assorted items from your favorite stores, maybe bread from a local bakery, fruits/vegetables from a local farmer, a pre-packaged fancy spaghetti sauce, put in a themed basket with dry spaghetti, us a colander for the basket, add some wooden utensils & seasonings etc.
Go to your local theater & buy a large popcorn container, add microwave popcorn, soda, candy, & a movie the whole family can watch.
It doesn't have to be big, just from the heart.

I would go out there, feel out what they are currently interested in, and then buy something when you have a better idea of their interests.
If you strike out and cannot find anything, research a good restaurant and just take them out to dinner as a back up plan.

you could treat them to a dinner out, one night while you are there, or some kind of baked gift is always good too.
