Some links you may find useful:
Firstly, are you SURE that these 2 breeds are the ones for you? I'd recommend reading this link before you choose your breed. You probably already realise but getting a dog is a long-term commitment, around 15 years, possibly more. Rushing into this could lead to heartache for you and the dog.

Do you know how to choose a breeder? Do you know how to tell whether the breeder cares about anything more than taking your money? How knowledgeable are they about the breed? How much effort have they put into ensuring the pups are healthy, and that their temperament is sound? This link gives tips on what to look for:

Perhaps you'd be willing to rescue? This link gives details of rescues near you. Scroll down to "Surrey" (some Surrey rescues listed under "London" too)

Good luck.

Absolutely not. Petland (and nearly all puppy stores) get puppies from puppy mills, no matter what they tell you. Anyone who would breed a puppy then sell it through a second-hand marketplace like Petland doesn't care about the welfare of the puppy. A reputable breeder will want to meet you, in person, and make sure you can provide a safe home. Besides, The Humane Society of the United States has done several extensive investigations of Petland stores across the country and have linked them to puppy mills. Save yourself the money (and potential nightmare) and go to your local humane society, SPCA, or reputable breeder.

Look carefully at both breeds.
I have had beagles for 20yrs, they are good fun when you know how to manage them.
Look at the Kennel club site & also beagle welfare site.
