This is not fair, you know?

2007-06-19 05:50:49 · 32 answers · asked by Diver 2 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

That's absolutely, 100% UNTRUE and very UNFAIR.

How can that be true when buddhism teaches one to cultivate goodness and to help others?

How can that be true when Judaism is only interested in bringing the Jews to their God through worship and personal sacrifice?

How can that be true when Christianity is only interested in loving neighbor as themselves and to do good to those who hate them?

It can only be true to say that religion is evil and violent under ONE RELIGION. - ISLAM.

Do you blame us for the terrorist dogma in Islam?

Qur’an 8:60 “Infidels (non-muslims) should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them.”
Bukhari:V4B52N260 “The Prophet said, ‘If a Muslim discards his religion, kill him!’”
Qur’an 5:51 “Believers, take not Jews and Christians for your friends.”
Bukhari [4:52:177]: Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him!"

I think many of you don't understand this simple concept. Jesus came to preach love and not hate. Those who follow Christ live in love. The same cannot be said for Islam. There's no agenda here. I am merely pointing out a glaring fact that many are unable to identify.

2007-06-19 05:59:04 · update #3

YES! what people do with their religion is their own doing. BUT...what about what the religion teaches?

We can blame those who violate their religious teachings of love. But what do you do with those who deny their terrorist dogma by pretending to be good while their brothers are killing infidels in the other parts of the world?

There are 2 parts to this understanding.

Christians who commit violence and shame have indeed hi-jacked the christian religion. This can be proven with references to the bible. HOWEVER, muslims who commit violence and shames have NOT hi-jacked the islamic religion cos that is what islam is all about.

If you even bother to search out those links that I have provided here, you will know that I am speaking nothing but the truth.

Such a rant.

So, you don't think Christian missionaries have ever done anything violent to the people they have gone to "save?"

You don't think Christian warriors did any damage to anyone during the Crusades?

You don't think Christians, throughout their history, have been violent and destructive?

You are wrong.

Islam is doing to the rest of the world what has been done to them. No, it isn't right, but it is what it is.

Is religion the cause of all violence - not at all.

But you have to agree that it would be a much better world for everyone if religion was not used to judge others.

Are you crazy? Do you really think Christians are innocent as a tradition of faith? Do you really think Islam is the only violent religion?

You have so much to learn. I would recommend you study something other than what your pastor or church approves and get your mind around the bigger picture of history. Your rant is ignorant and makes you look stupid. I don't think you are stupid, but your arguement IS stupid.

My, do we have an agenda here perhaps?

Islam is no better or worse than any of the others.

Look at the O.T. The Israelites committed genocide under the instruction of their god.

Christianity is behind the crusades and the inquisition. Much of the violence against the new world natives was done in the name of Christianity.

Personally I blame people for violence. Religion just gives them another excuse.

You may say a certain religion is "only interested in" peace, or doing good, or helping find their way to God.

But the reality is much different.

People have often used religion for their own purposes. It happens even today. The motives of religion may be pure, but the unbending nature of many religious beliefs promotes intolerance, and therefore violence.

I find it highly offensive that you would think Islam is violent and not Christianity.

You obviously have not read your entire bible from start to finish. You know there is an Old Testament, and it speaks of as much violence as any horror novel I know.

I don't find all religions are a source of violence. But I do find the Abrahmic Religions to be so.

I think it would be a start to eradicate those ones, and then we'll see what the others will do.

The Land Letter was a letter sent to President George W. Bush by five evangelical Christian leaders on October 3, 2002 which outlined their theological support for a just war pre-emptive invasion of Iraq. The letter was written by Richard D. Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. It was co-signed by Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries, Bill Bright, chairman of Campus Crusade for Christ, James Kennedy, president of Coral Ridge Ministries, and Carl D. Herbster, president of the American Association of Christian Schools.

To be more accurate the Land Letter represented a very small minority of folks who did not exactly truly represent everyone their titles would indicate.

Hence, On September 13, 2002, US Catholic bishops signed a letter to President Bush stating that any "preemptive, unilateral use of military force to overthrow the government of Iraq" could not be justified at the time. They came to this position by evaluating whether an attack against Iraq would satisfy the criteria for a just war as defined by Catholic theology. [14]

The Vatican also came out against war in Iraq. Archbishop Renato Raffaele Martino, a former U.N. envoy and current prefect of the Council for Justice and Peace, told reporters that war against Iraq was a "preventative" war and constituted a "war of aggression", and thus did not constitute a just war. The foreign minister, Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran, expressed concerns that a war in Iraq would inflame anti-Christian feelings in the Islamic world. On February 8, 2003, Pope John Paul II said "we should never resign ourselves, almost as if war is inevitable." [15]

Both the outgoing Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, and his successor, Rowan Williams, spoke out against war with Iraq.

The executive committee of the World Council of Churches, an organization representing churches with a combined membership of between 350 million and 450 million Christians from over 100 countries,[16] issued a statement in opposition to war with Iraq, stating that "War against Iraq would be immoral, unwise, and in breach of the principles of the United Nations Charter." [17]

Jim Wallis of Sojourners Magazine has argued that, among both evangelical Christians and Catholics, "most major church bodies around the world" opposed the war.[14]

The short answer: Murazor above hits the nail on the head. And remember, you don't have to be spiritual to be religious.

I blame violence caused in the name of religion on the religion behind it. Non-religious violence I blame on the person creating the violence. Not all religions are violent, like Buddhism, but the Abrahamic religions have a very bloody history.

If you bring a group of people together and convince them that their way is the one true way, their beliefs are the only valid beliefs, eventually their arrogance will lead to violence. This is without regard to whether the group is religious or non-religious (ie. democracy, communism, Christianity, Islam, etc.). Humans united as a single minded group are extremely dangerous.

I believe the Buddhists and Wiccans are quite peaceful. But the religions of Middle Eastern origin seem to be incredibly violent, if the actions of their followers are any indication.
