the first few days you will belld heavy, I used the pads they provide at the hospital, but if you have a certain brand you like buy them. You will likey change your pad every hour or so for the first few days, and things can be really messy. After a week it starts to slow, I only bled for 10 days or so total.

im 40 wks and 5 days and still waiting to go into labour, so far everyone else i knew that was due around the same date as me has already had their babies, and as everything went smoothly with giving birth, they was all in an out of the hospital the same day! hopefully this will go the same way for us too and i asked them myself how many pads and what sort they needed, 1 or 2 said they only took the 1 pack in of thick an long pads in of around 12 in a pack and they didnt use them all in hospital because they was in an out that quickly, and another woman said she only took the one pack in which was more than enough becuz she was in an out too, but also said that if she would have had to stay in the hospital becuz of any complications at the time she wouldve sent her partner back home to get a few more packs of her own pads because she didnt like the look of the hospital ones- i didnt ask her why, so either way im taking 2-3 packs at least and a good few pairs of old breifs, as i heard the disposable breifs were useless. hope these opinions helped in any way and good luck!

I took loads in with me and kept running out. I then got a free sample in one of the Bounty packs. They were Kotex maxi night time pads and were the best ones I had. Got my Mum to buy some for me the following day. The best part is that they are really thick so sort of cushion you as weel as being really absorbent. I tried maternity pads aswell but didn't find them as effective as the Kotex. Would highly recommend. I also bought some of the disposable baby changing pads to lie on while in the early days. Saves the embarrassment of having to ask the nurses to change the bed if you have an accident. They were made by Pampers I think but well worth buying a pack (from ASDA, Boots etc.) Good luck, hope you have someone on hand who won't mind shopping for you if you do run out.

In my experience , assuming you will be having a short stay in hospital, you will need to pack a couple of packs. You'll be better off getting the proper maternity pads as although you may feel like you've got a brick in your knickers, they are much softer (you will be very sore if you give birth naturally and even more so if you have to have stitches-take it from me!!) The best advice I was given before the birth of my first child was take plenty pairs of disposable pants!! They may be worse than bridget jones' big pants but will prove invaluable!! This way you can just take the whole thing off, wrap it up and chuck it in the bin. Nappy sacks are very handy for this too.No spoiled under wear, less washing, and you'll feel secure.
The pads you can get from anywhere, I've used ASDAs and boots, best to have a couple more packs at home as you don't want to run out. After a week or so (before if you're lucky) you'll be able to use just normal towels, then panty liners as the bleeding becomes less. My first child I bled for 6 weeks and my second I bled for three, but much lighter.
If you do have to have stitches, regular, cool baths help ease discomfort as does wrapping a babywipe in cling film and putting it in the freezer for a short time. A much cheaper alternative to these cooling pads that are on the market! Make good use of the bedet in your ward bathroom. I was a little shy with my first, but was happy to use it with my second and it was nice and quick/easy to get cleaned up and ease the stinging.
I hope this helps, you must be so excited (and nervous!?)
Good luck with your aproaching birth, and I hope you and your baby all the best for your future!!

I took two full packs of the boots maternity pads, and I ran out !!! The hospital in the UK where I had my daughter did not have any so my partner had to go out and restock ! I had to use two at once so I would suggest you pack about 4 packs and get the proper maternity ones, long and very thick. Good luck

Pop into your nearest Sainsburys and buy up three or four packs of their maternity towels as it really is worth getting the ones designed for the job-especially as it's not just absorbency they're also longer than the thin ones and as you'll be sat a fair amount you need the length to prevent leakage. Take two packs into hospital-you'll be changing them really regularly for the first few days.
Get the longer length heavy duty winged ones for afterwards-enough to last a fortnight should see you safe.
I bought a two packs of HUGE pants to take into hospital too as they were really cheap and if the worst happened they could be binned without a second thought and trust me being sexy will be the last thing on your mind for the first week (and probably most of the second too, lol).
Just as a precautionary measure get yourself a tube of haemorrhoid cream too(even if you've escaped so far they can still creep up on your behind during birth), for the sake of a few quid it'll be worth it's weight in gold if it turns out you need it ;-)
Good luck!!!

I would take 2 or 3 packs of maternity pads with you. The likelyhood is that the hospital will provide you with some, as they did with me but take them anyway. Also, they wont go to waste, as you will use them when you go home. It depends how many you go through as this varies from person to person. But a couple of days hospital stay.....2 or 3 packs.

Pads are best and I would say at least 2 packs as you may have to wear 2 at a time.
Good luck

Take as many as you can fit in so you have a good supply as you don't know how long you'll be in hospital for. Places like mothercare sell really good ones.
Get the strongest ones you can but remember that even if they don't leak they still need changing just as regularly as if they were less absorbant.
They should have some at the hospital if you run out though.
Good luck! x

I used the overnight kind with the wings, they worked best for me. The hospital will give you some things that are like incontinence briefs for the first day.
