Stop Windows Messenger from launching on start-up.

n Windows XP, Windows Messenger launches automatically on boot. To disable this, open Windows Messenger and select Tools | Options. Under the Preferences tab, deselect Run this program when Windows starts.

Messenger also has the annoying habit of launching when you open Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express. To disable Messenger from starting with Outlook, go to Outlook's Tools menu, select Options, open the Other tab, and uncheck Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook.

To stop Messenger from running when you launch Outlook Express, go to the Outlook Express Tools menu, select Options, and deselect Automatically log on to Windows Messenger.
