Why do we waste our time trying to convince the other that what we believe is correct. We all really know that nobody is going to change their mind from what they read on yahoo answers. Not trying to be critical, as I do it too, just want to know what you think.

If you can convince me i will change my mind, I'm pretty open minded and i can learn about others. I cannot count the things i have learned about other beliefs on R&S. I am more convinced we are the same now then ever.

Excellent point. I'd rather spend time trying to understand and learn about the other side's beliefs than try to convince them to agree with mine. I have always been interested in other religions, though. Some people are more closed-minded and believe that their way is the only way and are convinced that converting others is the 'right thing' to do. I say live and let live. If you're interested in actually learning something: ask.

As an atheist, I KNOW I will never change the mind of a religious person. Their beliefs are too ingrained. What I DO hope to accomplish is 1) At least make them think critically about their beliefs. 2) Not be so afraid to question their beliefs. 3) Make them realise that just because THEY believe in a god, does NOT mean everyone else does.

I think the relation i experience with God is worth talking others about. Its culturally and spiritually gratifing. Not only that, it has made me a better man.
Other than that, i'm just expressing my opinion here, even though i sometimes "poke" people with diferent beliefs, its with the intent of making everybody think a little and to know what they think about the subject. I don't go shoving my beliefs down anybody's throat, but i'm more than ready to share them with anybody willing to know and to try to deffend it.

I dont try to change anyone's mind. You can beleive whatever whacked out crap you want to believe in. The only reason I am here is to correct the misunderstandings/lies that believers hold regarding scientific principles.

I find it fascinating and also educating to get to know different opinions on those topics. In real life you mostly met people with the same world view. So even if it is not possible to change someones opinion, it surely is interesting to hear different point of views.

I don't come here to convince anyone.

I come to answer the questions that are directed towards Atheists, like the one you just listed.

If it doesn't request my attention, I don't give it.

I also ask questions that require pretty simple "yes's and no's" ..because they are asking for everyone's opinion.

If they only wanted opinions from their own faith group, they should put that in their questions.

I can't change anyone's mind myself, but I can provoke and make people think.

Plus, it prepares me for real life arguments. I mean really, some of the stuff said by fundies here astounds me. If some one told me this face to face, i'd be speechless.

As an agnostic, of course, I'm not entirely convinced that I'm correct.
