Do something a bit different. If she is a heavy sleeper, slip the ring onto her finger during the night and then wake her up with a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses, she wont know what your celebration until she realises that she is wearing an engagement ring.
Or
Draw up a hopscotch course and tell her you thought it would be fun to be a child just for a moment, then after her turn, pick up her rock and give her the ring instead. It would definitely be a proposal to remember!!

Dev the dude lol anyway you know your girlfriend better then i do you have to tailor make something that fits her style/personality the ring in some champaigne or in a hotair baloon or under a rock at the beach are all "romantic" when i proposed to my fiance we just got into a huge fight with my cousin and i asked her in the hallway of our house the next day i bought her this really nice ring and took her to some places she has never been butted wanted to go later that evening i gave her a full body massage and then we took a steamy shower together we have been engaged since december and we are doing better then ever and i am pretty sure that my way of popping the question wouldnt work for anyone else but me. I always wanted to have the ring ribboned and tie to a dolphin and have it swim up to her but never got the chance since i live in Colorado but if you need ny further suggestion e-mail me p_jarvis@hotmail.com

Depends on the girl, and whether or not the guy is really into the romance thing. If he's doing it and feels like an idiot while he's doing it, then it's going to come across as awkward -- sweet, but awkward. If, on the other hand, he's really into making it one of the most special moments in their lives, then it can be magical, no matter what he does. It depends on the relationship -- is this the next inevitable step, or is it going to come as a surprise to her?
Gotta admit, though -- I was always a sucker for a guy that goes down on one knee . . . :-) The most romantic one that I ever saw was at the Rockefeller Center ice skating rink a couple of Decembers ago. They have 50-minute sessions, and clear the ice between each session. Except this guy had arranged that he and his gf would have the ice alone after everyone left -- in front of the Christmas Tree and thousands of on-lookers! -- and in the middle of the ice, directly in front of the tree, he goes down on one knee and gives her a box. She takes the box, opens it, bursts into tears, and throws her arms around his neck, and a couple of the skating referees then skate out onto the rink loaded with red roses for her. Then everyone claps and they skated off. THAT's romantic!

If you are thinking of proposing, then you should know what she likes. Work it around that, if she likes art take her to an art gallery, a sports girl at a sporti event. I myself am partial to the idea of by the water (lake, ocean, something) just at sunset when the sky and the water seem almost to be on fire. There really isnt a best way, it is a matter of personal preference. Think about her, and what will mean the most to her.

Finding what her most wildest dream is and then doing it that way. Does she like flying? Put it in the sky. The ocean? Put it in the water. I never like the thought of putting a ring in the food or drink they may swallow it and choke. Then she will be mad for trying to harm her. Ha Ha. This really depends on where you live and what you two like to do as a couple or mainly what she likes to do. There really is no most romantic way to fit with all of us. We all like different things and romance to all of us is the special way we love each other. Good luck and let us know when the big day is.

Every girl is different so the proposal should be unique to that girl. Fish around, ask what she thinks romance is, what her favourite romantic movie is and watch it. Ask her friends, they're an awesome resource. What I think is so romantic would probably do nothing for your girlfriend, so do some homework!

If you don't know her well enough to have a clear picture in your mind of how she envisions that moment, you should reconsider the proposal until you do.
Think about how she would feel if you admitted that you got the idea from asking total strangers on the Internet. I doubt that she would see that as romantic.

Some women want the "over the top" in public, written across the sky, type of proposal. Some women want you to ask their families permission, and have it be just the two of you, during dessert at a nice restaurant, with "will you marry me" written in chocolate on plate....
Either way, you know you girlfriend the best, and you know what she would like.
Personally, I just want mine to be captured (camera or video). I would love it if he had a friend there to capture that moment when he is *hopefully* down on one knee asking me to be his wife... :)
Good luck, and congratulations!!! :)

On the Scoreboard, at Wrigley Field, with the Cubs winning a World Series game.
But, that's me - I'm a sports fan. If she's not, then this will be rude, selfish, what not. If you can find an activity that speaks to her interests, then do that.
Otherwise, on a blanket with a picnic basket on July 4th as the fireworks go off - that sounds pretty nice if you'd like to do it soon.

My brother-in-law proposed to my sister at their favorite restaurant on their anniversary. He made arrangements ahead of time with the head waiter to have the ring brought out in a fabulous dessert of strawberries. When the waiter lifted the silver server off the tray of strawberries my sister almost passed out.
My cousin proposed at the beach. He rented a plane with one of those banners. She almost missed it, but said yes.
