Yes, it has to be a "Memory Stick" which is what almost all Sony cameras use.
No, it doesn't have to be made by Sony - several other flash card manufacturers that make make Memory Stick products.
Just be sure to get the "Memory Stick Duo" type card which is what this camera uses.
By the way, this is the biggest reason NOT to buy a Sony Digital camera. They use a proprietary flash memory card - the Memory Stick which is more expensive than any other format. To make things worse, Sony has changed the "Memory Stick" at least 5 times over the last 10 years (Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, etc) and they are all non-compatible with each other. You would be much better off to choose a camera that used "SD" memory - it is cheaper, used by most cameras, and made by almost every flash memory manufacturer. I would suggest buying a Canon camera - they are the best.
