You can use as many colors as you want! I wouldn't suggest any more than 4 though because then things start to look cluttered and over the top. You need to come up with some sort of theme and go from there. I know it might sound odd, but go to a craft store and invest in a color wheel ... then take it with you everywhere and compare it to things you find when you're out. That way it will be easier for you to choose something you really love.

wow, you have over two years to plan. It's not a good idea to use more than three colors, including the white that's in your dress. Although I did see a fall wedding one time that used all the fall colors and was BEAUTIFUL. But since you're getting married in the summer that wouldn't work. The colors you use all depend on what time of day and what type of setting. If you have an evening wedding in a church, that's more formal, and colors like burgundy, black and white, or navy blue work well and add a sense of formality to the wedding. If however you are having an outside wedding during the daytime, that's much more casual, and you could use any summery colors such as yellow, green, blue, anything you want. I always said that if I got married again I would use my favorite color of pink, but when I actually did get married the second time I ended up using his favorite color, blue. It was really pretty. Use his favorite color, or yours, plus white. Have fun planning your wedding!

Use as many colors as you want. Pastels are always a good choice for summer because they are cooler colors. I was also married in august and my colors were pale blue, mint green, pale yellow, pale pink, and lavender. I got the idea from the colors of the wedding mints. Each girl wore a different color, but they all had the same dress. My wedding photos are gorgeous. Anyway, whatever colors you choose, make sure that they are what you want and not something that anyone else thinks that you should use. Good luck and congratulations!

You can use whatever colors that make you happy. August is on that cusp of summer and fall so seasonally you would stick with jewel toned colors and a few pastels.

You should pick an odd number of colors like 3 or 5. I can't tell you the scientific reason behind it but studies show that humans respond best to odd numbers naturally, even when we don't realize we are doing it.

I tell all my brides the same thing. When you are deciding your colors go to the hardware store. Send the guy off to play with powertools and hightail it to the paint aisle. Pull down as many paint chips and wallpapers as you want and start putting them together until you come up with a few options that suit the mood and look you want. Call the finacee back over and pick one. Take a few chips of all the colors you chose home. Put one set in your planning book. The others you can give to vendors when you need to color match or take with you to the bridal shop when you are looking at dresses. It is also helpful because you can try to explain sky blue vs robins egg to a guy but they just understand blue so its easier to show them.

Use colors that you like best. Now I have to say have a little mercy for your bridesmaids. If your favorite colors are orange and hot pink I would refrain from making your friends wear dresses in those colors. But overall I would say that it's your wedding, you're the one who is going to look back on it either positively or negatively and while the colors aren't a huge choice, it is your day and should be about what you and your husband to be want. Pick colors you like while giving a little thought to what colors will go together and look good on others. Not everyone can carry off loud colors.

I love viberant greens, oranges, yellows and reds for august weddings because those are the natural colors of the season.

But choose whatever colors you like. Try going to a flower market and see whats available this August to give you a better idea of what to expect during those months.

As many colors are you like. Most birdes chose 3-5 colors, but I just attended a wedding where she used almost all colors mostly blue though. :) Good luck and congrats!

I'm an August wedding too. Here's what I said earlier...

Ours is one the rocky Oregon Coast. Our colors reflect the backdrop of mossy monoliths in the ocean. Our colors are a Sagey Green (though its called "Grass" at Davids Bridal I believe), with Ivory and Chocolate.

Our flowers are Green, White and Antique Blue Hydrangea with White and Green Roses and White Pionese. We'll use sand, shells and clear and green beach glass (which my fiance and I are spending the summer finding and collecting) as accents in the centerpieces and decor.

The bridesmaids are wearing that Davids Bridal Grass Green in whatever dress they choose. They are carrying flowers but I'm giving them white paper parasols as well for pictures etc. I'll be in Ivory. The groomsmen are wearing gray or tan (not yet decided) three piece suits with green ties.

EDIT:: As far as number of colors, I would have one main color and then choose a few colors (maybe one light and one dark in value) in a color family that feels good with the main color. All my colors are soft and toned down.
What are the best colors? Thats a matter of opinion.

You should use you and ur soon-to-be husban's favorite colors. Usually 2 different colors are used. But it's your wedding so you can do what you want. If your looking for ideas for traditional color theres:
yellow & white
pink & white
(anything & white)
pink & black
pink & brown
lavander & yellow
yellow & blue
and any light colors together are nice

Non-traditional:
fuschia & orange
bright yellow & bright pink
pink & red
red & orange
or red & yellow is very popular for a non tradiontal wedding

But in the end pick something that expresses both you and your fiance.

Good luck in the future!!

i changed my color scheme every day of the week until it came down to what flowers i could actually get that were affordable and in season and in alaska. so i went with red roses. call your flower people; see what options there are for august (probably a lot).
my best suggestion is to do what your Favorite color is. i wouldn't pick more than two colors unless theres some sort of theme like a horse print or pinatas or something, i don't know. i saw this really pretty one it was all these colorful butterflies in reds and greens and marigolds. they did it in the napa valley. it was beautiful. go with your heart!! congrats!

It depends on your preference. I would say a combination of two colors. Some nice combinations are lavendar and light green, white and burgundy, white and royal blue, red and white (looks nice with red roses)..A lot of colors look good with white and ivory, then there's always spring/summery colors like bright pink, purple, and spring green. Just depends on how you want everything to look. Hope that helps. Have fun planning your wedding!
