The beaches on the American River are great, and if you want a pool, I would recommend the Pool in Rusch park, Citrus Heights.

No, go Sacramento river at the Discovery Park area. The river is a bit warmer (still cold but not glacier cold) unlike the american river.

I used to live in Chico, north of Sacramento. They have much better swimming areas in the creeks. That didn't answer the question, but I prefer to go up to Chico to swim in Big Chico Creek in Upper Bidwell Park. :)

There is also a public pool at McKinley Park.

Why don't you just drive up to folsom lake and swim there? If not to American River is always fun to hangout on!
