Here's the answer from Purina for the questions "Do Dogs Sweat?"
"Dogs only have sweat glands on the pads of their feet, no where else on their body. Therefore the only way they have to cool off is by panting and through their feet. Therefore in hot weather it is extremely important that dogs have plenty of shade, cool water and when the heat is extreme that they can come indoors. Never, ever leave your dog in a closed car where the temperature can get up to 100 degrees in a very short time. Since dogs do not sweat they can suffer heat stroke quickly and even die."

Dog's DO sweat - just differently from us. Sweating is the act of producing fluid to cool the body down, as a reaction to heat. We sweat through glands throughout our skin, dog's mostly have these only in their paws.
Dogs lose heat by panting when they are hot - when your dog pants, this is like 'sweating' for him.

They don't have sweat glands but release excess heat by rapid shallow breathing. The small blood vessels in the lungs act as heat exchangers. Not as efficient as sweating which is why some breeds don't handle heat well.
By the way one of the quickest ways to cool down an overheated dog is to wet is feet, the pads contain the same small blood vessels which keep the dog from burning its feet on hot pavement. The blood flow keep them cool.

They actually perspire through their tongue instead. The system is similar to ours except they use their tongue because they have limited sweat glands.
Birds are the same. Ever see them running around with their beaks open for no apparent reason? They're panting. :)
" Evaporation of water, either across respiratory surfaces or across the skin in those animals possessing sweat glands (mammals)helps in cooling body temperature to within the organism's tolerance range. Animals with a body covered by fur have limited ability to sweat, and rely heavily on panting to increase evaporation of water across the moist surface of the tongue and mouth. Birds also avoid overheating by panting since their thin skin has no sweat glands. "

Dogs sweat, but only through the pads of their feet. That's where their sweat glands are.

Their sweat glands are under the coat so by the time the dog would sweat the fur blocks it,also they pant to keep themselves cool so the sweating might be reduced.

they do sweat but they only sweat out of their pads on their feet
Warm-blooded animals have different ways of sweating. Dogs, cats and mice have sweat glands on their feet. Dogs pant when they are hot because their sweat glands are not sufficient to cool down their bodies. In addition, their tongues allow the water from their bodies to evaporate and cool down their bodies.

They shed excess water through their mouth (Drooling). Ever noticed on a hot day, your dog panting like crazy, tongue out, and water dripping from it's tongue? That's it's way of sweating.
Cats sweat through the pads of t heir feet, leaving wet paw prints on a hot day.

the only place a dog has sweat glands is on its pads. dogs cool themselves by panting, licking their noses. you can aid in their cool by providing shade, and cool fresh water.
