I totally agree. If there was a regular police presence in neighborhoods and they were visible, people would pay attention more to their speed. Most people do not speed intentionally (beyond the 5 mph rule), If our government was a little more responsible with budgeting , local departments would not have to rely on ticketing for their budget shortfalls. (for example, if we spent less money on other countries, or politician paycuts, eliminate some of the ridiculous positions and budgets within our government) Most police officers don't like to give tickets to regular people, but they know they have to meet their quotas (don't tell me quotas don't exist either)..............ALL THE COPS READING THIS, PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF VISIBLE AND WE WOULD NOT SPEED...........................................

I think it makes a difference where they are. When cops are very visible in one area of town, then crime moves to another area. Studies show if speed is reduced the number of traffic accidents also are reduced. As for neighborhood crime watch, why don't the cops come to the neighborhood crime watch areas BEFORE crime happens? They usually get lax!

Right on! Policing now consists of control over the people. We see law enforcement become more like government, a large bureaucracy which must justify & maintain it's existence at our cost. True crime prevention starts at the bottom, not the top.

Everyone know police hide to catch speeders, therefor people will be more cautious. If you see a police car, you will slow down then speed up when you pass them.

Their job is to enforce the law.
Look into neighborhood watch programs and if you don't have one, you can start one.
