OK, I have always been very healthy, eat right, work out... Lately it seems when I get sick it is almost impossible to get well in a timely manner, and to make matters worse, even the slightest loss of sleep the illness seems to come back. I've been getting sick for weeks at a time with no relief.. it has kept me from exersizing and enjoying life. I just moved in with my girlfriend who has 2 cats which I am allergic to, could this be creating the problem? Could the exposure to these cats be weakening my defense system leaving me prone to illness and make it difficult to get over the illness? Or, is this simply natural when you get older, I just turned 40 last year...

Being in your 40's does not equate to a life of illness. The cats could be causing you a problem. The best way to find out is to talk to your doctor and see if you can get tested for allergies. You will also need to keep your new environment as clean as possible to alleviate some of your allergy problems. Be sure to take your multivitamins daily as well.

^It is a possible your allergic to the cat dander. I would go to the doctor and get a complete physical, just in case it's something else and have some allergy tests as well.

Turning 40 isn't the reason, it's only a number and remember 40 is the new 30 and you say you take good care of yourself so maybe 25, unless the fact that your getting older really bothers you, I'm not saying your depressed, but; depression and stress can cause many illnesses as well. I hope this helps.

It may be the cats. Your immune system was probably weakened because you're around them so much. Go see a doctor, and eat lots of oranges. They're full of Vitamin C, which supports the immune system. If you must, get an air purifier. Good luck!

My sister can not be around cats. Just one time she was sick for a week. Move out or get rid of the cat.

Call your doctor and make an appointment for a physical. You may have an underlying condition that needs to be addressed. The doctor can also give you a prescription for your allergies.
