There is no way that Mayweather goes up to middleweight (160). Even I think he knows that it would be a very risky move. Just about everyone in that division would be too powerful for Mayweather... and would use their natural weight to their advantage. If Mayweather came up to 160, Winky Wright would be licking his chops at the opportunity to annihilate the "pretty boy". Personally, I don't even think he should stay at 154 too long.
Assuming Mayweather decides to actually comeback, I think he will remain at welterweight (147), unless another match with Oscar De La Hoya comes up, again. Besides, I think there are more bigger names for Mayweather at 147, than it is at 160.

If he where to go past the 154lb division he would share the same fate Sugar Shane Mosley did when he went to the 154lb division. As we all know he was just to small for that division. I feel Mayweather is too small for the 154lb division also but he fought the right fighter(oscar) at that weight, so it didn't show. I think natural 154 and 160 pounders would just be naturally faster and stronger than Mayweather, so he would be at a great disadvantage. I think he should go back to 147 because there are so many good fighters there, ie Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, and even guys like Collazo and Williams. He should beat at least the first two of those guys then go back to 154 again and handle his business. Just my opinion.

A blemish on his record. He might have won against De La Hoya, but the fight was telling.
Taking on younger and bigger opponents does not look good for Mayweather specifically because a 34 year old slow De La Hoya was competitive against him.
If De La Hoya was able to pressure him into all that defensive posturing, imagine what Winky Wright / Jermain Taylor would do?
Either way Mayweather goes, if he continues to fight there are guys out there that can give him a run for his money.
I would definitely like to see him fight Mosley, Cotto, Williams, Margarito. His defensive style gives Mosley and Cotto a good chance of winning by decision. At the least, we'll get to see what Mayweather is made of.

I wouldn't rule out yet another move up in weight for Mayweather. The welterweight and junior middleweight divisions are heating up with talented competitors, and I'm sure Mayweather wants no part of it, having already fought Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah, Baldomir, etc. His power is no longer reliable. His defense will always be there. I think if he moves up to middleweight, he will fight a moderate opponent to tune up for probably Jermain Taylor. MAyweather has the skill set to do just that. He may even become the champion of the division in the process. Either way, it's a risky point in time for Mayweather. I see him hibernating for a while, until things cool down. In welterweight, ther'e Cotto, Mosley, Williams, etc. He wants no part of those guys as of now. At junior middleweight, you have Ouma, Spinks, etc. In middleweight, the opposition is too big for Maywetaher and it's probably too soon to jump up in weight since he has only fought once in the junior middleweight division and almost lost. Hibernation is best for Maywetaher's career before fighting again. He is still young.

If mayweather moves past 154 he would have to face either J.T. in middleweight at 160 where he would easily loose or winkey wright which would be a terrible fight due to winkys likeing for defense and mayweathers likeing for runnong around the ring. Or he could fight Kelly pavlik which would be the dumbest fight he could take. He would get wrecked by pavliks punching power. I dont see mayweather moving up. He can earn good money fighting in a DLH rematch, against cotto or shane mosley.
thanks for the question

I believe he'd be capable of it, but why would he want to? All of the real competition is at 147. Thats were all the great fighters are springing up, and all of the real challenges. He was already offered a fight with Winky, he declined it, knowing better to fight someone who is bigger and can match his defensive skills (plus it'd be the most boring fight in history).
Ouma and Spinks would both lose to Floyd. I think Floyd should go back down to 147 and beat Shane, and either Hatton or Cotto, and then retire. If he moved up he wouldn't stand a chance against someone like Hopkins. He could probably give it to Jermain Taylor, but 147 is where its at, and thats where Floyd should stay.

I think he should stay where he is at and beat Mosley, Cotto & possibly Hatton if he will fight someone. Hatton hasn't fought anyone since beating Kosta Zyu. He can beat all those guys & if he did move up looking at Jermain Taylors performance against Corey Spinks he could beat Jermain Taylor also. He has the speed & the boxing IQ to beat all these guys also he has outstanding defense. He is boxings best pound for pound fighter right now. The only guy that worries me is Paul the Punisher Williams. 6'1" 147 & a southpaw, keep an eye out for him.

Mayweather won't go above 154. He is actually small for that weight and is best at 147. He wouldn't be able to go to 160 and still be as good as he is. He would be against much bigger men and even though he is fast and very skilled, a bigger man may lead him to a loss. Floyd is too proud of his record and his mark in history to do something that may jeopardize that.
Mayweather will continue to fight at 147 or 154. He won't ever go to 160 unless its against a chump.

Mayweather would be in for a similar shock like De La Hoya. No way does he even consider the move.

Mayweather beats any fighter on the planet under 154. Once he goes up to 160 however, he loses many physical advantages and puts himself at risk. He is too smart to do that. He knows his place in history is already secure. He doesnt need to go up anymore.
Floyd stays retired or comes back but at no higher than 147.
