We just got new dog. When our resident five month puppy met his new sister he was soooo happy. They were very excited. They played and licked each other and humped each other all night.

She was with our other dog for about 14 hrs before we found out that she has pnuemonia. (coughing, wheezing, loss of appetite, lethargy) They were very attached, so we took him along for the ride when we left her in the hospital. Yesterday he threw up in the car coming home alone. It is two days from the day of contact and he is looking a little peaky. And he is not as playful as usual-

He ate dinner last night and breakfast this morning. Could he be sick or just missing his new sister?

pnuemonia is not contagious between humans so I don't think it would be in dogs either.

Pneumonia is just as contagious between dogs as it is with humans - the pathogen that causes it can be airborne so it can be easily passed.

As to whether the male dog has caught the pneumonia or not well, only someone who's actually examined the dog (i.e a vet) could confirm that. Is he showing the same symptoms? I'm actually more concerned about the two dogs humping each other - at least one of them is neutered right? Five month old dogs can impregnate non spayed females!

If you're concerned for your dog, take him to the vet.

EDIT: OK, there's a lot of confusion regarding pneumonia in these answers (another reason why medical questions should only be directed at medical professionals). Pneumonia can indeed be contagious, because it has many different causes. The actual condition 'pneumonia' is an infection of the respiratory system, and can be caused by a virus, bacteria, or even a fungus. 'Pneumonia' doesn't MEAN 'fluid on the lungs' this is merely a symptom of the actual illness - the infection causes the fluid build up. It depends what kind of pneumonia your dog has as to whether it's contagious to other dogs or not. See a vet!!

Pneumonia is the name for the condition of having fluid in the lungs, and thus is not contagious. This is what the doctor told us when my brother had it. However, the disease that caused the pneumonia in the first place could be contagious. For example, in humans, you could have a really bad upper respiratory infection that leads to pneumonia. Other people may catch your cold/flu, but it may or may not lead to pneumonia in them.
Keep an eye on your dog and if he starts showing signs of illness, get him to the vet.
P.S. the throwing up in the car, if it was just a one-time thing, is probably nothing. Lots of puppies just get carsick.

He could just be missing his "new sister", but you can always ask the vet if you are uncertain. Many dogs not used to riding in a car will get carsick and throw up. He might have felt safer with her in the car, and when it was just him... got too nervous/anxious and threw up.

Like I said... ask the vet if your dog could have caught something from the other one.

The person who said pneumonia in people is not catching... is wrong. There are several different types of pneumonia: bacterial, viral, fungal, etc. Many of which are "infectious"...

So talk to the vet to see if the puppy might have given your dog the illness. But sounds more like he is missing her than that he is sick.

Good luck.
