I think you should go with JV because I was and upcoming freshman last year (i'll be in 10th grade this year) and I had really bad coaches 7th and 8th grade year and I did not learn a thing until I got to JV. It helped a lot even since I liked the coach but she picked favorites and I hated that. It helped me a lot and I played only about 4 game with the JV and then played Varsity the rest of the season. So, if you practice hard enough and want it bad enough you will make JV probably as a freshman and then if the coach helps you a lot then maybe you will get bumped up to varisty. You just need to keep trying and trying and trying and working on the techniques and the skills that the coaches at camp are going teach you and keep working on the skills that you old coaches gave you. Hope it all goes well for you! Good Luck!
later♥

P.S.
Varsity as a freshman is very hard trust me so if you want to make that big of a comittment then you should make varsity if you deserve it. Keep practicing!!

I think you should play a year of JV first. You might find out the coach will help you get your serve down. You won't have it down by the end of camp...it takes a lot of practice. Also if you're just a freshman and all you've played is middle school volleyball, varsity volleyball i a lot more upbeat and faster. So I'd go for the JV because you'll be able to be with your friends and plus you'll learn all the things you need to learn.

If your serious about volleyball, no coach will stop that because if your good enough to play, a grudge will not stop him or her from putting you in the game to Win. As for your friends, Varsity and JV travel Together, Period. Take it from someone who's been there, done that. I came in as a freshmen, had NEVER played before, and after my summer pre-season, made it to varsity, and got alot of playing time. In most schools however, you can play JV and get some Varsity time. Here I am, 5 years later playing Division 2 Volleyball, and I STARTED as a FRESHMEN at the COLLEGE level. So everyone else who says its impossible and for you to back down from Wanting something, can piss off because if your willing to work your @ss off for this, you deserve nothing but the best. GOODLUCK<3

It sounds like you need a season of JV to better your skills. And how do you know you don't like the coach? Sometimes you need to give something a try before you form an opinion. Word of advice - be an overachiever - don't give the coach a reason not to like YOU. Hustle all the time - ask questions - don't talk when the coach is talking - be respectful. Work hard and make an effort to be better each time you leave the gym then what you were when you got there that day. Camp is great but you need to work on your skills every day to become good. If you want to be a good player, its all up to you.

If you are a freshman, definitely go for JV. You will have time to work on your skills and get respect from the coaches. If they feel you are ready for Varsity and have earned a position there, I'm sure they will move you up. You also need to think about the girls that are older than you. Will the sophomores and juniors give you a harder time because you are trying pass up JV? You have to EARN your place on the Varsity team. Take your time, and show them what you are capable of.

If you can't serve overhand theres no way you'll ever get play in varsity. Stay on JV this year and learn the skills you need to be a strong varsity player.

Look at it this way, if you make varsity, you'll sit the bench and never get a chance to get any better.
If you play JV you'll excel because you're probably better than most people and you'll get more playing time. Then, in a year or so you'll be on varsity and wont have to sit the bench.

I'll say you try out for jv because if you are really good they'll bump u to jv. Thats what happen to my friend and she was a freshman. If you don't have your overhand serve down by tryouts, I would say u still try out for jv. Overhand serves really helps to make the varsity team.

u really need to get ur overhand serve down because all varsity players usually serve like that but if that camp does help u out then u should try out for the varsity team.

good Luck

You have a good chance to get in varsity if you are as good as you say you are. The best thing you can do is give your most effort and don't get nervous about not getting in. Aside from that it there isn't a whole lot else. Good luck trying out.
