Mormons are told that drinking beverages like Coke is a sin, so this would be funny if true, however, it could be just a rumor.

Thank you for the snopes site, but it doesn't say that Mormons don't own a PART of Coca-Cola, which is what I asked. I know the church does not own Coca-Cola itself.

If they do own a lot of it, they own less than 1.2% of the company (hardly a "large part").

The LDS church has a lot more available cash than most churches. They clearly need to be investing to offset inflation. They probably own indices like the S&P 500, which includes Coke.

Also, drinking Coke is controversial among Mormons. It's never been said "thou shalt not drink caffeine". Other things have been said that Mormons had made inferences from. The bottom line is that you can drink a Coke in a Mormon building and everyone can watch you do it and you can still hold callings, go to the temple, etc. Nothing is withheld from you. You don't have to do it in secret.

Some say it's evil, some say it doesn't matter.

Below is a link showing the major shareholders of Coke.

As far as I know, the church doesn't own ANY of Coca-cola, unless it's a few shares.

Drinking Coke is not a sin. We are not to drink coffee or tea.

An urban legend. While the Church may hold some stock, it can hardly be called a "Large" part. A lot of drinks like coke have caffine free versions on the market. Caffine Free Mt. Dew anybody?

Yes... that is true... they own shares in Coca-cola and in some casinos in Vegas (owned by mormons, not by the church).

Yes, they consider using caffiene to be against their "words of wisdom" guidelines... it is not a "sin." They are also against gambling, but not as a "sin", just as something that is bad for ya.

I'm not excusing the irony, just letting ya know how it is.

As far as a large part...no, as far as any I don't think so, however I have family that are Mormons and I have seen them drink Coke and they said that they were taught that it is only the natural caffeinated products like coffee and tea that are bad...Not positive though.

they own insurance companies that reinvest their billions . it is possible because coca cola is a good investment. I guess you could say that not all coke products are bad, right ?

There are many Jews who sell Christmas decorations. You can separate your religious beliefs from your business - the Amish do it all the time.
