I got my ears pierced about 4 months ago, i've since changed the studs about 4 or 5 times, lately i'm noticing on one of the posts...it gets a bit discloured...i put 9ct gold in both my ears, but it's usually only one earring(the right one) where the post gets a bit discoloured, it goes a dark reddy brown colour and it's only a tiny bit of the post...the part which rests in my ear, as i clean it...i see it. I'm just slightly worried, does it mean dried blood or what?
It doesn't hurt, and there's no infection so i'm just curious as to whether thats normal or has anyone had this before?

I had the same problem. It so happened, I developed a sensitivity to the metal. I could no longer wear gold earings. The inside of the earlobe was breaking out and swelling, but there was no infection per se but it would cause a little bleeding which was the discoloration on my post. I ended up running several strands of thread soaked in peroxide through the piercing to clean everything out. When the thread was dry, I rubbed an antibiotic cream on it and pulled it through again. I switched to stainless steel and silver and the problem stopped.

Check with your physician to be on the safe side.

You could be allergic to the gold. Also by changing them so often your cutting the inside of the hole in your ear. That's why you have dried blood on your earring. When you put your earring in the right side your hand is at a different angle, therefor your cutting the skin a bit. Check the posts for sharp edges. Apply clear nail polish on the posts, let dry, this should help. Keep the earrings in longer, use a special cleaner. Keep turning them, this should heal and make the ear hole stronger.
Good Luck

I agree that its your body reacting to the metal. You may be similar to me. I have one ear thats extra sensitive and can only go with 10ct gold or better. Even then I have to take them out each night before bed and clean both my ears and earrings well, but my ears have been pierced for years so there isnt worry about them closing.

I would say try and find some good gold studs of 10ct or better, and clean twice daily at a minimum with either rubbing alcohol or use Claires ear cleaning solution. That one works best for my daughter.

Yes, I think it is dried blood. Your ear is a little sore isn't it? Feels a little itchy. Thats the problem. Keep your ears and the posts clean by wiping them with alcohol.

The problem will soon disappear as soon as your ears are completely healed.

It's perfectly normal. It can be a combination of things from blood to dirt, everyone with pierced ears gets it at some point or another. Just make sure you regularly clean your ears and remove your earrings and clean them with them same solution.

Remove the earings and clean your ears with rubbing alcohol. Clean the earrings with this as well by setting them in the lid of the alcohol with the alcohol. Then put them back in your ears. You might have to do this a few times for it to stop. Its your body reacting to the metal. Good luck

Sounds to me like you're having a reaction to the metal. Try using surgical steel or implant grade steel posts as gold & silver posts in some people just doesn't work.

Yes, I have had this type of problem, you must disinfect your earrings prior to every time you put them in, and make sure you disinfect your hands and nails as well prior to touching all this.
