well, in my eyes they learn quite a few things.. for example, they learn hand/eye coordination and balancing skills.. depending on the age of course, it can be strenious for a baby that has just recently learn to sit, to balance her muscles and stack the rings. they also learn something about logic (the big one HAS to go first, otherwise they won't fit!) and patterns. while they may not be able to sing the rainbow song, they learn about colors just the same, especially if the parent (or whoever) sits down with them and says, this is blue, this is red.. and an added benefit.. they learn to play by themselves for a few. little kids and babies do the strangest things but they are learning something each and every time!

Well for one it helps with hand eye coordination two it helps with controlling their movements to every last detail. Depending on which stacking rings you use they can help teach color and numbers as I learned from my little girl.

Hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, large motor skills, cause & effect, patience, self-confidence, and you could even use them to teach colors and shapes if the rings are different colors or shapes, or even sizes.
