When you are weight training, your muscles need a day of rest in order to re-build. Weight training or resistance training actually makes little tears in the muscle fibers (thats why it hurts a bit the next day and you are a little weaker after exercise)

You can train every day if you want to but you have to exercise different muscles or different groups of muscles on different days. One day of complete rest per week is advised, so a six day a week schedule is the most efficient.

For an upper body example you can do chest, triceps and shoulders (those muscles group well together - for example a push-up or a bench press uses all of those muscles) on Mon, Wed, Fri and then do Back (lats) and biceps on Tues, Thur, Sat.

There is no one best way to do it as there are many many different effective ways to divide up your workout and in fact you should mix it up every three months or so.

Don't forget to train you legs and core body as well. You can train your abs and cardio 6 days a week.

If you are doing the same workout each time, every other day is better.

I would suggest every other day. Because i think muscles are growing when they have a rest. And the other thing, if you will train every day, you will get bored pretty quickly. So take you time, train every other day, eat enough protein and enjoy what mirror shows you :-)

Try alternating what muscles you work out each day. Building your muscles actually involves micro-tears in the muscle itself. Allow a day of rest with a particular muscle group to allow those tears in the muscle to heal and build up. Try working out your lower body one day, and your upper body the next. Or you could also work on biceps, triceps and forearms one day, and your shoulders and back the next. By alternating what muscles you work out, you will allow muscles to strengthen and build up and yet also work out each day and get muscles faster.
