Me and my boyfriend went to a hotel in york for the weekend, it cost us £90.00 for both of us for one night then extra £40.00 for our meal and then drinks etc... so not exactly cheap but not massively expenisve, but the hotel had not been finished the views were of JCB's and skips and the corridors had nails and rubble all over the floors! it was awful. the website does say its finishing construction until this month, we didnt see that until we got back! So I dont know if to complain or not!?

Write a polite letter the manager, explaining why you are upset. Perhaps they will provide some compensation

Finishing construction could mean any number of things. Minor work or, as you found out, a mess.

Would have been prudent to telephone the hotel regarding your reservation before booking the room. I use internet to check out the hotels, but still call to ensure I know what I am getting.

I would write a calm letter to the manager, explain you were not aware of the construction and didn't realize it would be that bad.

You have nothing to lose, try it.

Good luck.

And what good would complaining do?

They are under some renovations, give them a little slack!
