I am having toe surgery to clean up the bone spurs that have been caused by arthritis in my big toes. A friend said they can "scrape" out the arthritis and I said they can't. Otherwise, millions of people would be elated! Isn't there NO cure for arthritis?

You can remove the byproducts of the arthritis (ie, bone spurs, cartilagenous tears), but the mechanism by which arthritis is caused is still there. There is still so much we do not know about arthritis...but we do know that it is not simply "wear and tear" on a joint, but has physiolgoical and metabolic influences as well. You are right, there is no "cure" for arthritis...we can only treat the results of it.

Removing the bone spurs very well might relieve your pain, but there is a possibility it could return in the future. Hopefully, following the advice of your surgon and assuming a healthy lifestyle, you may minimize this risk.

Arthritis is the degradation of the jointspace itself. Both bony and soft tissue anatomy degeneration plays a part in arthritis and so to answer your question, no, there is no simple answer such as "scraping it out". It is basically the wearing out of the joint itself. Parts of the joint that normally glide smoothly are scraping on each other and causing pain. If there are parts that protrude into the joint, they can be removed and sometimes this can help. There are injections that can be given directly into the jointspace that will help reduce friction, but they are only a temporary solution. Entire joint replacement is another option. See an orthopedic surgeon for more advice.

Bone spurs are a different story, they are strictly a bony abnormality that is irritating the soft tissues and can be removed and the irritation stimulant is gone.

there are two types of arthritis, reumatoid is the really bad one that can't be fixed. Regular old arthritis can be "scraped". I had it done in my shoulder. I saw the video of the joint before and after. It's amazing. It's a little painful afterwords, but not so bad really. For my shoulder, I took pian meds for a day and a half then stopped taking them. On day three, I taped my hand to the handlebar and went for a ride on my harley.

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

No, you cannot "scrape" out arthritis. If that could be done I would've had it done.
