my boyfriend draws very well, and he has done about 10 tattoos so that he can create a portfolio for himself(these people volunteered to be his guinea pig) how would he go about actually getting a job in a tattoo parlor.....because as far as licensing goes, I think in the state of Georgia the individual artists doesn't have to be certified, but the shop he works in must be certified(although I could be wrong)

I used to work at a tattoo shop so from experience, when you want to become a tattoo artist you have to apprentice under one of the artists from the shop if they'll have you. You really have to want it too. Some shops want apprentices with some sort of art degree but not all. Generally, you have to speak with the owner of the shop present your work and if you're good enough/what they're looking for they'll take you but you have to do a lot of shyt work before you can become an actual tattoo artist. It takes a lot of time and dedication. Apprentice work intales: Pretty much cleaning the entire shop, Greeting customers, Doing stensils, Doing anything your boss pretty much tells you to do(they had me washing their cars like I said a lot of crap work 1st), and scheduling appointments. They won't let you work on anybody until they think you're ready. They'll go over your drawings with you and tell you what needs improvement. You have to do a tattoo on yourself before you do anyone else. In some states you do need a liscence but not to apprentice when you're able to get to that point the shop helps you out with that part if needed. In most cases since you're an apprentice anybody you tattoo at 1st has to sign a release form.

You will want to start by getting an apprentice ship! Most studios have them. You have to bee good at art. So I would draw up some tattoos and take them with you when you apply! I love tattoos! Good luck it is a really cool and fufilling job!
