I mean, If I were god I would use my magic god powers to smite the romans, build a church, and lead my followers to a kingdom of god.

But all he did was hang on a cross and get stabbed by a spear. Why would god do that?

You appear to take lightly a lesson that was intended to lead by example.

By explaining that "God" could "smite the Romans, Build a Church and lead followers to a "Kingdom of "God" your words are not as unwise as they originaly appeared.

As it appears "God" did neither, the idea "God" is a "special interest only " God" evaporates, pretty much he is on one side and not another?

My Guess is "God" is wiser than most Romans, um?

You claim "hanging on a cross" and getting stabbed by a spear is your everyday occurence. Consider the event as a lesson and more valid a one than any Church may lay claim to.

Whom would follow a leson of power as opposed to a lesson of humility?

The cowardly might cling to power as they fear it; yet even the weak would follow the injured and this was pretty clear in that message.

The interpretations of that event come out distorted and form the bases for Christianity.

If you Consider "Jesus" all talk and no action Consider the opposite was shown and your interpetation of weakness needs a second look.

You ask why "God" would do this and I must say: To obtain credibility as emassary of "God" one must get the attention of everyone first.

As Jesus represents Truth, and with that attention now directed at "Truth" through non-violence, we see "That is the Way" ie, push nothing upon another whom will not listen as soon they will hear me (truth); in this very thought we see there is no need to press ideas upon anyone regarding any religious matter.

It's never was about "powerful God" follow me...it is about follow You as "IAM" is within you. Simple.

Because his purpose was not to fix the world at that time, he came here to die so we can have hope. He showed he had power by resurrecting the dead, curing the sick and feeding the hungry, but all those were just a temporary demostration of what he will do in the future. his apostles thought he was going to bring his kingdom at that time, but they were mistaken, his kingdom is not a kingdom based on the earth. Also, the jewish system was going to be destroyed because they rejected Jesus and thought that their covenant with God was still valid, but after Jesus died it was not, so God allowed the romans to destroy them and scatter them about.

Because for those who don't beleive and have no faith have nothing to offer in the kingdom of God. This was done to show God's presents and let mankind decide to follow or not you know God exists now because of Jesus. That was the only way God could try and get mankind tyo open their eyes and build their faith. Without that faith you will not be able to even perceive the Kingdom Of God. Much less enter for eternity. All you have4 faith in is death and evil but few trust and have faith in God and for those it is a constant challenge.....Peace

Because C hrist didn´t come to world to destroy nations or do sensational things. He came to save us and preach the truth. He sent his apostles to spread his message of salvation all over the world and millions were saved through his precious blood - hanging on the cross and getting stabbed brought us the most beautiful thing we have - divine filiation, and also made us holy and acceptable to God.
However, he will return to the earth and there will be no forgiveness for the ones who didn´t accept him. We will then see his anger and power.

When Jesus lived on the earth many Jews were looking for that kind of messiah, because their scriptures told of His victorious coming. But the scriptures also told of a suffering savior, and they could not put these two ideas together. And as they were suffering under Rome they were dreaming of the victorious Messiah's coming.

But as we know, that was not God's plan, He first wanted Jesus to come to pay the debt for our sins. And in a few years it will be time for Jesus to return as the victorious Savior.

The reason Jesus came to earth was to provide salvation. Read Romans.

He was a lot of action though. He challenged the religious way of thinking. He threw legalism out the window and loved, accepted and tolerated those who the Pharisees condemned.

I agree with Amy F, Jesus & God are two different people, and God sent down his son to die on the cross for our sins.
and Jesus is still alive, he arose frome the tomb remember?
And don't you remember, that God was very angry after Jesus was crusifix on the cross, that the sky turned dark and the earthquake?

As a disjointed collection of mythical stories, the tales of Jesus don't provide anything worth analysis as 'miracles' or purposeful activity.

Other godmen had walked on water, turned water into wine, raised the dead, etc. so people added these stories to his meager pile of stuff that only included catching large numbers of fish on a bad day for fishing and making loaves and fishes for several people out of somebody's lunch.

Finding the vaccine for polio was a much better miracle, imo.

After reading the bible, it is clear that all of Jesus' 'miracles' were unverified parlor tricks performed for credulous uneducated people to convince them that he deserved their adulation whilehe spouted warmed-over sayings of Buddha and other philosophers in a crude fashion.

To have victory over death. Until his death and resurrection, the devil had held people in a bondage to the fear of death; to accomplish this he was willing to die, knowing he would rise again on the third day.

The romans were the "powers that be" of the day. Jesus had little to do with them, they were something like the americans in iraq or afganistan. God had sent those armies and empire to punish the wicked.
