I get a corporate discount on Audi and Volvo and I'm having a hard time making a decision on which car is better. Have any of you test driven the A3 or own one?? How does it handle in comparison to the S40? I haven't had time to go myself but intend on going soon.

Look at consumer reports for reliability and maintenance issues. I have never been steered wrong with their information.
There are costs of ownership with all vehicles. I drove a Volvo for several years...I still like the older models, not so certain about newer ones....that being said... Volvo is an expensive car to own. I dealt with dealers and independent shops..it doesn't really matter.

I know nothing about Audi.

I know you get the discount with Audi and Volvo. If I were in the market for a european car...I would look at BMW, they are offering some attractive deals with free maintenance for a certain period.
That has to be weighed against the type of driving you do on a daily basis. The more miles= more upkeep vs your discount.

happy driving.

just an opinion,

Volvo Vs Audi

Better or not is relative to what youre looking for.
Volvo's new s40 is a big value for the $$$ now. Compared to A3 the s40 is roomier, and (imo) looks better inside out, also a decent handler. Build quality is good, but still below Audi.
Main downsides: front seats are big and supportive, but too firm for some and the leather quality is way below audi's. Engine is noisier and feels weak at times. As for reliability theyre both pretty much the same, but a far as I know volvo's maintenance is cheaper.

Audi A3 has better handling, and fit-finish is 1st rate. It also wins in fuel econ category. Comparing the a3's interior and build quality w/ volvo is unfair, audi is the class benchmark in this category, beating even bmw and mercedes.
Minus: hand brake is hard to use cuz it's blocked by the center armrest. the rear seats are nicely built, but too upright, making it uncomfy on long trips. room is also tighter than s40's. beware of audi's terrible rep for reliability, while the 2.0 is known to be pretty durable, expect to face various electrical problems common to audis.
One more thing, after a while you may hear slight clicking noise from the a3's hood (also happened to my neighbors' A4s). It's the FSI system working, no potential damage according to Audi, but it can be annoying. I dont know if they've fixed the problem yet, but it's common w/ '06 models. I suggest you to ask the salesperson about this matter if you decide to buy the audi.

Hope it helps. goodluck

I am a fan of Volvos, so I have to throw in my two cents.

Audi's in general are VW underneath. Everything I have ever heard about VWs are that they are full of problems. Always going into the shop for one thing or another.

A friend of mine had a Audi TT. Twice he came out to start the car and it would not start. The dealer had to come, somehow get his car out of the garage (locked in place, would not roll) and haul it away. He finally got rid of it and bought a Benz because he didn't have time for it.

The newest Volvo S40 is built on a shared Ford Motor Company platform. It has a lot of the same 'underneaths' as the Mazda 3 - that is, they are both built on the same platform. Volvos in general are pretty good cars, I have had several. However, they are expensive when it comes time to fix them.

Good Luck.

Get the Audi. They are a step above Volvo when it comes to the quality. Volvo is known for safety but Audi is known for safety plus everything else (luxury, comfort, fun, speed, looks, etc). You can't beat Audi right now plus Volvo is owned by ford.

You probably can get a better deal elsewhere. Meaning more bang for you buck than an Audi or Volvo. But if you must I would buy the Audi due to it being the better classy type car. Try to also use the website carsdirect.com
This website makes the dealers bid for your business and not the other way around....It's free to try too.

I would go with Audi A3 for sure. If you get the Volvo everyone will surely laugh at you. The Audi is SOOO much better looking, has better handling, is faster, and all around a better choice. What color are you considering?

Totally different feel....

A3 or any Audi for that matter is light and nimble feels. S40 or any Volvos are heavy and stable feels.

It all depends on what you like and how you drive.

I would go for the Volvo S40, they are too cute and great to drive plus decent gas mileage and a great history.
