I hear you! No, it seems that morality and ethics in general have taken a nose dive and the churches are no exception. One thing that gets my 'goat' is the prevailing attitude that if God loves you then you get lots of things, money, possessions, etc. So that means if people are poor God hates them. Also, gambling is OK for Christians now and I was taught it was a sin. Same with tattoos and reveling clothing. Now girls dress like they are going to work the corner and go to church services. It is more than I can comprehend.
And yes, science was taught as science and all this controversy about ID was unknown. And Christians felt that politics was not something a spiritual person got involved in...
Look! You got me going you old witch you!!!

Growing up Church was only second to family. That was where we renewed our spirits from being in the world. Singing, and praising God were more important than seeing who had what. Fellowship was good and Christian friends could be trusted. The pulpit was not a political, financial or self gratifing platform it was used strictly to preach the Word. The Lord was the head of every service and every household. Church was a good and wonderful place to be. I don't know how we lost it over the years but somehow with the advent of instant everything Church or the family of God became more like the world and less like God's family. We could all wish for the good old days but the truth is we are responsible for the way of the Church. We have allowed it to become what it is today by standing idly by and not raising our voice when we knew the Church was headed in the wrong direction. A prime example would have to be the ordination of Gay or Lesbian as Ministers, when God';s own word calls their deviate behavior an abomination and a revolt against the will of God. We have allowed the teachings of God to become second to those self indulgent wills of man. For instance take the offering. God instructed us to bring our offerings to Him not for Him to send ushers with plates to collect it from us as we recline on our backsides. Communion is be done in rememberance of the sacrafice made by Christ and as often as we have Communion we are to remember but now it is relegated in most Churches to once a month or less. King David danced before the Lord yet in most of today's Churches anyone who would stand up in the isles and dance for the Lord would be shuned as a non conformorist and someone who just does not fit in with their way.
There are, however, out there Churches with real Pastors who love the Lord and who preach His message of salvation. There are Churches where you can sing off key and no one will give you the eye. There are Churches where you can feel at home and want to be there whenever the doors are open. Our challenge is to find those Churches and fill them to the brim to show the non believers and the dis hearted Christian that God is still on the throne and all is well.

Many people have gotten comfortable. Though they recognize problems in the church there's a "that's the way it's always been done" attitude. For whatever reasons, they present grand shows and say "Christ loves you no matter what as long as you bring your money here."
Churches have lost sight of 2 Timothy 2:15...... A true student of the Bible recognizes Jesus as the revolutionary that He is -- challenging the status quo, bucking the traditions of men and TEACHING the way. Too many preachers and not enough pastors....As my pastor said last week, there are a lot of people who can preach from a pulpit but can't live according to God's word. They're Sunday mornings are full of "giving honor to God who is the head of my life" but Monday through Saturday they blend in w/ their surroundings.
R.E.A.L. Christians need to recommit to seeking God's will and living according to His word.

So the church was so great before that you left? I'm not really sure you're making the point you hoped for.
When is "used to be" 10 years ago, 20, 300, 2000? Yes, we CHRISTians are aware that it is not what it used to be, if you think it should be different, perhaps you should go back?
Corruption can happen in churches where there is no accountablity, just like EVERYWHERE else.

the problem with the church is the same problem with everything. it has become a franchise. it's about who has what (as far as money), it's about what group can we say is immoral this week, it's about attacking what you know to be right because it doesn't follow the people you are following.
get a life. be your own person, if god is supposed to everywhere then why do you have to spend a whole day or a whol eweek in one building. if he knows your heart then no amount of sitting in the church is going to get you into "heaven" any faster. only being a good person. that's why alot of christian's are turning to buddhism. because it is alot like christianity but more open to new experiances and people that are different. buddhism today is closer to christianity than christianity today is.
me personally i don't follow either. i have found peace and comfort in life and family.

The Church is collapsing under its own weight. While local churches can do good for the community and what not as the entire institution gets larger and gets more centered to a over arching leadership structure the system slowly starts to get corrupt.

Actually, I looked around from the inside and saw where it was going, that's why I bailed in the first place. Well... that and the fact that I realized my own religion wanted me stoned to death (suffer not a witch to live).

Yes, actually I do. I know its strange but I feel disgusted at some of these people who call themselves Christians but don't even bother to study their own holy book.

I think you are paranoid and probably have severe anxiety issues. Take your pills and calm down. No, none of us look back and wonder anything like that. Well, except those with severe anxiety and paranoia.
