why do we keep on saying that gays are going to hell??? why do we keep on calling that a abomination but other sins like adultery, killing and lying just sins??? why do we take that one part, that one sin and blow it up so greatly? i dont agree with that!! all sins should be equal cause it is in the eyes of God, so who are we to size it up like that???

Rod, the new testament overrides the old one when Jesus said that the two main commandments are know the God is your only God and love your neighbors [maybe not in those words]...and also adultry was punishable also by the death or by exil....so humm why dont we also do that?

I believe as you believe that all sin is sin (paid for on the cross) and whereby I do not choose to judge the sin or the sinner as it is not my job to do so. I do not believe that gay people are going to hell for being gay. I believe the only folks going to hell are the ones who deny Jesus Christ as savior.
Whether they are good/bad/gay/straight etc..

They are idiots. They listen to the part where "if a man lay with another man as he does with a woman, both their blood shall fall upon them" of Leviticus. Yet, they ignore what it also says in that same book, that eating pig is dirty and impure. That if a woman menstrautes, no man is allowed to touch her or he will become impure. Funny, how some people just ignore this. Their defense is that Paul changed the dietary laws so we don't have to adhere by it but is convenient for them that Paul didn't say anything about gay people. Jesus never spoked about homosexuality, he did say divorce was a sin. That if a woman parts away from her husband and she marries another, that is adultery. However, many evangelicals and fundamentalists divorce. It is really the ultimate hypocrisy.

As a Christian, I've put my foot in my mouth on this issue and the Holy Spirit kept pricking my conscience on this. I want to share what I've learned and was reminded about recently.
Here's some scripture that probably best explains where God wants us to stand on certain issues. Just remember that we are leaning on our own understanding on what is right and wrong, which is why we Christians see these moral issues so differently. I definitely feel a certain way about certain sexual activities, and if you ask me my opinion, I will share it with you. However, as a Christian, I am reminded that we need to be very careful in how we share our viewpoints. I learned the hard way, because my post last weekend caused another person to post a question stating that they would never consider Christianity after seeing the hypocracy of my viewpoint. For that reason, my fellow Christians, please be very careful, because God is not honored when we do this.
See Romans 14 (in particular verses 9-23) for more details, here is the link to those verses. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=52&chapter=14&version=31

yeah i agree with what youre saying. sin is sin.
If youre really interested though in understanding why some people have that opinion i suggest that you look in a bible concordance at all the references in the bible on homosexuality. The bible is actually very harsh toward it compared to some other sins and uses the word 'abomination' quite a lot. i'm not saying christians condemnation of gays is right- i'm just saying that reading the bibles point of view is interesting and you can see how some people could take it and twist it.
I think the reason the bible treats it so harshly is that males and females are made in gods image and God made them to reflect is some way what he is like. The same with marraige- its a symbol of jesus and the church. According to the bible we were created to glorify God by reflecting him in who we are. Homosexuality then is offensive to god because its giving a warped picture of what He is like. i think thats why it talks about it more harshly than say adultery- which is just as bad in human terms but in terms of displaying what God is like is not giving such a warped picture as adultery. Thats what the bible means when it uses the term 'abomination'. you'll see it also used in the context of idol worship to that defaces god's character. One definaition of sin, according to the bible, is anything that devalues God's character.
anyway- thats what i learn't in bible college.

I'm not saying Gays are going to hell. The only way a person ever goes to hell is to totally reject the gospel message.
Now, as to why some people call homosexuality an abomination. It may be because some people find two guys having sex a turn off, or maybe they are secretly turned on by it?
Personally, I think it's totally disgusting for a guy to put his privates into another guys anus.
The creator, in all his wisdom didn't design it that way, he designed men and women so that they'd fit together and start families.
God doesn't hate homosexuals, he hates the sin of homosexuality.
I am also feel that we take homosexuality and make it such a big deal, because we are responding to their public displays of a sickening disease. I think that if they just kept it in the bedroom, where it belongs, nothing would be said.
As to your question of who we are to size it up like that. We, as Christians, are to set an example of the kind of life God wants us to live. We are also encouraged to inspire people to want to be saved, and to bolster the spirits of the saved. We are also given permission to scold a believer if he's working against the gospel of Christ.

What is sin?
1John 3:4 Everyone who is a sinner goes against the law, for sin is going against the law.
What happens to sinners?
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul which does sin will be put to death: the son will not be made responsible for the evil-doing of the father, or the father for the evil-doing of the son; the righteousness of the upright will be on himself, and the evil-doing of the evil-doer on himself.(BBE)
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.(KJV)
Romans 6:23 For the reward of sin is death; but what God freely gives is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.(BBE)
The ultimate fate of the unrepentant wicked is death for all eternity, not torment and punishing for all eternity. Nowhere does the Bible say that the wicked will be given any kind of eternal life, only the righteous will be given that gift.
That does not mean that there will be no punishment for sin.
All sin is going to be punished by God. Including Sabbath breaking, and I am not talking about Sunday. Including worshiping of idols, and I am talking about Catholicism in particular. All sin is going to be punished.
The Catholic doctrine of 'Hell" is not Biblical. How can you reconcile a God of love with eternal torment?
While your attitude is admirable, you really need to study further and:
1Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Acts of homosexuality are called an abomination by God himself: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=lev%2018:22;&version=9;50;48;49;8;
However, gay people are not "automatically" going to hell, either. Some will be there, no doubt.
Murder is also an abomination, obviously.
Lying and adultery are serious sins indeed.
There are different levels of sin in case you aren't aware. John tells us in one of his letters that ALL wrong-doing is sin....but NOT ALL sin is deadly. This is why you and I as Catholics have the term venial (dismissable) sin and mortal -- from the Latin "deadly". Read 1 JN 5:16-17: 16If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. 17All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. According to John we're not even to pray about those who commit deadly sin.

There are degrees of sin as well as degrees of depravity, there is no question about this .......a simple "white" lie does not seem too terrible compared to "Mein Kamph" for instance.....however,the word of God states that no sin will enter heaven including those of a sexual nature.....It is the place of the Christian,to both defend and proclaim the Gospel(this will involve stepping on a few toes)....we are to judge sin as spelled out in the Word of God....we are NEVER to condemn souls to eternal damnation(this job is exlcusive to God)..........We are wayshowers....God is the ultimate judge

Fear tends to make a good motivator and causes people to be selective on sins they think are worse than others. If God said that all sins are equal (as you had said), then where is it within our right to judge other people sins. I always believe that when you're looking at other peoples sins, Gods looking at you.

I think the way our sins are measured is up to God and not up someone who also sins. I think that being gay is a sin but people shouldnt judge gays because of their choices. I is totally up to God if their going to heaven and not up to some preist. And yes, I do believe that killing, adultry, and all that other stuff is bad.

It's this easy. It is a sin punishable by death in the Old Testament, that makes it a bigger sin.Paul in Romans 1 spends alot of time on it specifically .So it is not your run of the Mill transgression. That is Bible not opinion.
