Hell's Kitchen is a TV show not real life. My hubby was an executive chef for 38 years, and while tempers do flare from time to time and it gets crazy in the kitchen, at NO TIME do people act like Ramsey. You DO NOT put your hands on an employee, you do not throw objects at people, food or otherwise, both of those actions are called assault which can and will get you arrested AND sued in the real world. And if a chef is the cause of a lawsuit due to that sort of behavior, guess what, HE gets fired.

I threw small tantrums compared to Ramsey, it does happen. Any place I've worked or owned. But I never threw utensils or food AT people, just the sink or trash. And I never ever touched an employee. I did throw spoons across the kitchen once when ticked off, and also I'd slam things on the counter, but nobody else was in there at the time. It was more like venting, rather than abusing the help. I appreciated my help.

HAHA, I've watched that too. In real life, I hope not, but who knows? I would think in real life if it happened, a lawsuit could be won. But, hey......it's shock TV, and Chef? Ramsey wouldn't have a show if he were a nice guy.
I've worked with people over many years that had temper tantrums and I FIRED them. Not acceptable in the work place.
Once I was in a fine dining establishment and overheard the sommolier ranting at a waiter (in a low voice, but still heard). It pi$$ed me off enough to talk to the matreD, tip the waiter and walk out without eating or paying for the meal I had ordered. I was invited back for a dinner on the house, but never went. Why shell out $300. for dinner to have it ruined by fighting? I can spend very little at the local burger stand and listen to kids whining/crying/sreaming or go to a better restaurant, thanks so much.

No they dont the most SOME chefs do is throw a noodle at the wall. If it sticks they are done if it dosnt they arent. And pushed??? I would have them taken out in handcuffs if they pushed or anything like that.

If someone working in a kitchen has food thrown at them and endures the kind of verbal abuse as on that show, they should first call the health department, then their labor board. Throwing food (and in one of the promo's you see him spitting food back into the container) isn't sanitary and would cost the restaurant their license. Screaming at employees creates a hostile work environment and could cost the restaurant a fine.
But this is a "reality show" - a new oxymoron.

If someone threw food at me, there would definitely be a problem. I wouldn't just say "Yes Chef".
